My greatest talent has always been communicating. As a young girl, this often manifested as being loud... raising my voice because in a young mind that's how one is heard. In a house filled with even louder boys, being heard was a big deal. As I matured, and inevitably secured dominance over my three older brothers, I realized that there is a peace in communication that is often overlooked. The human mind is a lovely thing and I believe that words have always been mankind's greatest tool. I certainly love using words. As a child, I was always the type who got in trouble for saying too much and asking too many questions. Even after teaching myself to temper my curiosity and friendliness, and learning that there is a time and a place, I still often seek opportunities to connect and understand. It just so happens that in my opinion, written communication is the oldest and best route to do just that. I fantasized about pursuing English, one day going into publishing and doing what I love for the rest of my life. But I was young and every important person in my life was telling me the same thing: English majors don’t make any money. This kind of statement can be scary to a high school senior who was suddenly asked to make decisions that would impact the rest of her life, so I majored in Interdisciplinary Studies and took every chance I could to take the odd English course. I laugh because here I am three years later after rushing through a degree I did not love and returning to my roots to pursue a Master's in English. That interest in books, in writing and editing and learning, never really died no matter how hard I tried to push it down. Because of this, I am seeking an opportunity to use what I know and grow. I have always been a self-starter and incredibly blessed in the confidence department. So it saddens me to think I used such precious time trying to talk myself out of something I have wanted for as long as I can remember. However, I do not regret my education in communication. After all, is literature not the purest form? My degree prepared me for people. For living and laughing with others. For bouncing ideas off like minds and expanding our knowledge together, which is exactly what I intend to do.Proofreading

Hello and thanks for stopping by to read about me! I am hoping to get to know others on upwork, and I hope to be considered a valuable resource to you in your writing journey. With experience in book critiques, Critique Circle, NaNoWrimo, as well as critiquing friends and acquaintances work, I am looking forward to joining this community! To start, who am I? At the moment, I am a current graduate student, getting my Masters of Arts in Linguistics, and love all things language. I have been to Japan four times, the Dominican Republic, and an avid traveler. My hobbies include cooking, watching good films, reading, studying languages, hiking, traveling, and visiting coffee shops! Near my house, I am happy to say there is a cozy tavern styled coffee shop that I love going to. My only rule for being there is: I only go there to read a good book, or write a chapter of my current work in progress. My love for writing began at a very young age. I began writing when I was eight, I loved reading graphic novels and writing my own, I wrote short stories on my notebooks at any given opportunity. When I was a teenager, I used Archive of Our Own and posted my fanfictions on a weekly basis. I was shocked and humbled to see it had accumulated 40k reads. I really loved my writing community on there, and the fact we were all there out of a shared love for good stories. Since then, I have branched out and began to write my own original works. It has been over a decade of serious writing, and I am thankful for every year and the lessons it brought. I am currently writing my book and I expect to publish it sometime this year. The themes I use in my writing center around fiction, romance, suspense, mystery, thriller and adventure. What can you expect from me as a beta reader? Firstly, my goals as a beta reader is to best support you as a writer and your natural skills within the field. I hope these insights will help you take your story to the next level! My most valued trait in beta reading is honesty that will be presented to you with clarity, suggestions, and takeaways. My focus as a beta reader will be less focused on your grammar and spelling and will be rather a focus on the story itself. I will give you my insights on your characters, the setting, worldbuilding, and motivations. Secondly, unless specifically requested otherwise, I do cold reading commentary. The purpose of this is to approach your work as if I am a casual reader going in blind. What would a casual reader think of your work as they pick it up? I also would like to emphasize that I do not use AI in any form during my beta reading or critiques. Having studied Linguistics and having a working knowledge of Natural Language Processing, I do not find AI to be a tool that I am comfortable using as a beta reader or editing. Now, on to the more technical parts about myself! My skills from my educational and professional background prove to be valuable to the creative writing field. In my Masters program, I am studying Linguistics, and within that, have deeply studied the subfields of pragmatics and semantics, which are crucial in creative writing. This specific subfield has sharpened my ability to not only find nuances, but explain them in a way that helps the writer know how to best convey the sentiment on paper. Secondly, I specialize in sociolinguistics, which delves into interactions in society and language. This is valuable to the creative writing community, as this knowledge is able to further enrich our understanding of our characters' motivations, worldbuilding, and social and economical factors that come into play in creative writing. If you have any questions or clarifications about me, would like to see a writing sample of my own work, or have any reservations, please do not hesitate to contact me! I am looking forward to reading your work and supporting you!Proofreading
