Deadlines are imperative and should be set reasonably. I generally meet all deadlines unless there is a major setback. I keep in touch with my clients and provide feedback, when requested. I usually work on MS Word. The process when working with manuscripts, two manuscripts would be sent back after editing; one with the changes tracked, and the other, a "clean" copy for you to see what it would look like. Thereafter, one last change from you, with regards to changes you would like to make, for me to review, and then the job is complete. I can assist with the layout, if required, but I must be notified upfront. While every person's thought and word are respected, I do inform my authors if I feel that a portion of their work is infringing on another's rights, in any way.
