Thank you for viewing my profile. I am a diligent, dedicated, dependable, and motivated individual seeking creative outlets in the fields of proofreading, PDF conversion, data entry, transcribing, and other typing. I prefer to communicate through Upwork messaging and check Upwork messages frequently during my regular business hours Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. U.S. eastern time. Due to family commitments, I am unable to work on holidays. Client satisfaction has earned me the Top Rated Upwork Freelancer award. Due to this Top-Rated ranking, Upwork selected me to take data entry, web research, customer support, and virtual assistant skills tests in August 2017, which I passed to become an Upwork Premium Freelancer. TRANSCRIBING I use Transcriber Pro software to transcribe audio and video files. I can usually transcribe and proofread one hour of clear audio of up to three speakers within 24 to 72 hours depending on my workload. I transcribe files on a regular basis on Upwork. I always proofread my work before submitting to ensure you are getting the most accurate transcription possible. I'm very sorry, but audios with profanities will be declined. Many people do not realize that transcribed material of your YouTube, GodTube, PetTube and other video websites are likely to improve SEO results. I would like to help you with that. I'm also happy to proofread and correct and/or update speech to text transcripts. I'm familiar with Otter and TurboScribe. However, they all seem to work similarly. UPLOAD/DOWNLOAD YOUTUBE VIDEOS G-rated videos only. PROOFREADING I earned my Freelance Writer career diploma from Penn Foster in January 2015, because improved writing skills aids in better proofreading skills. I proofread articles for an online craft magazine from July 2007 through January 2013. Other duties for the magazine included organizing advertisements, writers’ deadlines and other miscellaneous submissions, then emailing the compiled information to the layout designer. Before the newest issue was published for instant download, I was responsible for proofreading the final draft. I have proofread material for several other clients on Upwork since I started my Upwork freelance career in September 2014. I understand how to use track changes and comments in MS Word, and I also know how to use the editing and comments features in Google Docs. I am most interested in making your website content, blog posts, newsletters, emails, and magazine publications look professional before the rest of the world views them. Upwork freelancers, I can proofread, edit and/or polish your profile as well. SPLIT AUDIO AND VIDEO MEDIA FILES This is usually done to remove a specific section of a file or to use a specific section of a file. G-rated files only. VIRTUAL ASSISTANT I worked as a virtual assistant for a successful pattern website from July 2007 to December 2015. My duties included email support for customers and site sellers, blog updates, and weekly newsletter updates. PDF CONVERSION, MEDIA FILE CONVERSION, DATA ENTRY, and TYPING With basic knowledge of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and Microsoft Word 2019, I am able to convert PDF to Word and Word to PDF. Ask me about PDF editing as well. I'm able to convert most video formats into a different format including audio format. G-rated files only. If you need a typist for data entry projects, I can accurately type an average of fifty-four words a minute. I will also re-type scanned documents but prefer to type no more than ten pages a day. BIBLE Bible study is an ongoing project of mine, both personally and professionally. My education profile is updated frequently as I progress through my CLI college courses. Most of my freelance skills can be used in this area if you are looking for someone with this particular knowledge and understanding. MEDITATION I've also earned basic meditation certificates on Udemy. If this might be helpful to you, please let me know. I am a language advisor. You may ask, what does language advisory entail? I help train Large Language Models (LLMs) to recognize, respond, or modify language. While I don't interact with the model myself, I provide critical input on how to guide the model to generate the desired response or accurate content. Working with AI-generated content adds to my skillset as a fully bilingual proofreader and editor in both English and Spanish. I am able to tell when ghost writers in particular have been using AI - and when they have been using it poorly - so that gives me an edge as I also come from an academic environment. I see AI as a tool that can boost creativity and can help you understand why it is still important to add a personal touch to your writing. Do you sometimes feel like you're drowning in the vast sea of circular, boring language, and you can't seem to get out? I am here to provide my proofreading and editing services as I have been doing for 12 years now, and ready to collaborate with everyone! I hope that when you come across my profile, you shall be able to bestow on me the confidence to make your project come to fruition. Your writing can be completely yours or have AI elements to it, and I'll appreciate full disclosure if your writing is AI-generated for disclaimer purposes. I charge based on a tiered system of under 50,000 words, 100,000 words, and over 200,000 words and will accept both hourly and fixed rates. I am keen on flexibility and will strive to be on schedule. You are more than welcome to look at my portfolio/projects. It is ONLY a sampling of the kind of work I have accomplished in and outside of Upwork. Please mind this platform's compliance policies when inviting me. On this site, I have edited/proofread the following: * memoirs * romance (mafia romance, fantasy romance, purple prose) * poetry * AI-related blog articles * AI-generated content * medical surveys and forms * grants and proposals * urban novels * sports podcasts * erotica (strictly adult, no fanfiction) * business and finance blogging * children's literature * horror short stories * esoteric/paranormal * cosmological/spiritual * sci-fi short stories * self-help and motivational * articles and reviews (for websites - restaurant industry and catering) * beta reading (crime, romance, young adult, DIY) * fantasy * translation (ENG - SPA) * audio transcription (ENG - SPA) * subtitle revisions (ENG to SPA) * audio testing (SPA) I am a dedicated proofreader, open to translate from Spanish to English and vice versa. I have reformatted manuscripts and I am a published academic with a doctorate degree in Anglophone Caribbean studies and drama. I am polishing my skills on a frequent basis and I do believe it is in practice that I can truly excel, all in the client's benefit. Some of my proofreading and formatting work prior to joining this site includes: * plays/screenplays (religious, thriller) * fanfiction (YA/anime) * beta editing * essays (literature, social studies, philosophy) * translation (SPA - ENG) * interviews * polls/surveys * book reviews I am open to proofreading horror more often, sci-fi and other types of erotica, but any offer that seems to be right up my alley is welcome! I have experience with NDAs and other consultancy matters in reading sensitivity. Please do let me know in which ways I can be of assistance and I shall be more than glad to provide information and feedback as needed. I am available for offers and proposals. NYC-trained editor with many years of experience. My editorial specialties include, but are not limited to, memoir, business, education, self-help, and children's books. I often provide copy editing, line editing, fact checking, and proofreading as an "all-in-one" service. Whether a compelling blog article, cutting-edge business book, riveting memoir, children's picture book, or an educational resource, I keep a keen eye on grammar and mechanics as well as the organizational flow of the text. I work hard to maintain the author’s authentic voice while bringing to life the message they’ve been moved to tell. In addition, I specialize in applying a native (US) English tone to writings created by non-native speakers. My career in publishing began with a seventeen-year in-house position with Scholastic, Inc., a major educational publisher headquartered in New York City. Following this I worked remotely for a decade, still with Scholastic, from a tiny lake cabin deep in the North Woods of Wisconsin. Now in Music City, I am doing what I love most: freelance editing and proofreading all sorts of writing, including full-length books. I also offer audiobook pre-production script prep and post-production proofreading (rates vary). Favorite quotes: “Line editing isn’t about correction. It’s about showing the writer the power of their own voice.” — Christina M. Frey “Editing your own book is like giving yourself a tattoo. It hurts too much, and the perspective is all wrong.” — Helen H. Moore Testimonials: "Great to work with, she saw my vision and expanded it. Fast turnaround time and friendly supportive prompt communication." — Michelle Avis, children's book rhyming storybook author "Is there room here to describe not only Shawn's professional editorial brilliance, but her MASTERY with personal communication and project management? I hired Shawn to proofread my 300+ page personal memoir and in additional to polishing it to a beautiful shine, she provided a calming and supportive voice to the very end. I honestly can't even express how important that aspect of her work was to my project. I feel so grateful that I found her, and that she walked me across the finish line with such grace and expertise. She made my book so much better, and she did it all with heart and spirit. With degrees in international affairs and Spanish, complemented by studies in creative writing, my professional path has been a blend of cultural exploration and storytelling. From teaching English in Spain, where I immersed myself daily in language and culture, to crafting evocative travel articles about Mallorca, I advocate for slow travel and deep cultural appreciation. Over the past five years as a freelance editor, specializing in memoirs, I am passionate about helping individuals articulate their stories with clarity and resonance. I believe in the power of storytelling to foster understanding and connection, making each narrative an engaging journey of discovery. My work is driven by the belief that sharing our stories bridges gaps and creates bonds that transcend borders. With five years of experience as a freelance editor, I have had the privilege of working on a diverse array of projects. My most notable titles include serving as the lead editor for "Love & Try" and editing "Losing My Power Forward: Rebounding Through Grief" by Regina Tisdale. I hold a Bachelor's of Liberal Arts in International Studies and Spanish and a minor in creative writing. A background in International Studies and Spanish equips me with cultural awareness, language proficiency, and strong research skills, enhancing my ability to edit content for diverse audiences. My studies fostered meticulous attention to detail, effective communication, and critical thinking, all crucial for high-quality editing. Additionally, my interdisciplinary knowledge and adaptability allow me to handle a wide variety of topics and formats with ease, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and cultural sensitivity in every project. My creative writing studies included extensive literature coursework and participation in numerous writing workshops. These experiences have sharpened my skills in providing efficient and constructive feedback, which I apply to every editing project I undertake. As an editor, I pride myself on my meticulous attention to detail, from catching misplaced commas to eliminating accidental double spaces. My background as a creative writer allows me to approach editing from the standpoint of a craftsperson, ensuring that each piece not only adheres to grammatical standards but also maintains narrative flow and readability. In addition to my editing work, I have two years of experience teaching English, which has further honed my ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively. I am also a freelance travel blog writer, blending my love for storytelling with my passion for exploration. Moreover, I specialize in social media copywriting, copyediting, and management, crafting engaging content to enhance online presence. I am an avid reader, deeply invested in the stories I work on, and I am dedicated to delivering high-quality, polished edits that enhance the overall narrative. This means my typical day varies from anything like creating a content strategy, writing blogs, optimizing our sites with relevant keywords to running crawls, finding any broken links or redirect chains, and outreaching to journalists for links. I can help you from beginning to end in analyzing your current site, coming up with an SEO/content strategy, implementing solutions to found problems, and creating bigger pieces for coverage for higher domain authority and rank in Google. On top of that, I also take and edit photos in my free time. I have access to adobe creative cloud that has access to photoshop, firefly (AI), and lightroom. I do work a full-time job, so any work done on here would be during my time off (after work hours and on weekends).Proofreading marksPhoto EditingBook WritingCopywritingJournalism WritingVideo CommercialPhotographyWritingFiction WritingSocial Media ManagementProofreadingPoetry - $40 hourly

My focus is in micro and nano materials for thermal management applications but I can perform data analysis and illustration for any engineering field. Technical writing and translation is also available. I am temporarily away from the lab because I recently became a mother so I am looking for interesting one time jobs to keep me busy.Proofreading marksAcademic WritingAcademic EditingAcademic ResearchAcademic ProofreadingTechnical ManualTechnical WritingEnglishProofreadingCastilian SpanishProduct DocumentationCaptionDocumentation - $45 hourly
