𝐌𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 My earliest writing memory dates back to when I was eight years old. At the time, I wrote a story about the Mayflower, the 17th-century ship that transported the first Pilgrims from England to the Americas in search of religious freedom. This experience, inspired by an American history book, ignited my passion for writing. By Grade 8, I excelled as a top student in English and composition in my school. However, my writing prowess faced skepticism early on; in high school, my English teacher nearly failed my first composition test, mistaking my adept writing for plagiarism. Despite this, I consistently excelled in English and composition throughout my high school years. Contrary to my writing inclinations, I initially pursued a career in accounting, swayed by advice from friends and family. However, I soon became disenchanted with both the nature of the work and the compensation after working in several companies as an accountant. I was therefore intrigued to discover the potential for earning money through online writing. In 2012, I transitioned from my unsatisfying job onto online writing full-time, leading to a significant improvement in my income within just a year. My early professional writing began with academic writing projects, a common part-time endeavor for college students to date. Unlike many peers who moved on to other careers, I saw this as a gateway to my true calling in writing. Unfortunately, the journey to becoming an author and publisher was fraught with numerous challenges, notably the lack of mentors and formal educational pathways in Kenya. The local academic institutions offered no direct routes to authorship, limiting career prospects to teaching, journalism, or multimedia. My significant breakthrough occurred with the self-publication of my first book, "Redeeming Your Lost Blessings," in 2016, a challenging period when financial constraints made traditional publishing routes unattainable. By then, I had gained extensive experience in writing, having done tens of thousands of articles which laid a strong foundation. Yet, I still had to acquire additional skills in graphic and editorial design through self-directed learning, utilizing free online resources and instructional videos. By 2018, I had mastered the skills necessary to design and format my book, leading to a successful launch in 2019. This period also marked a transformative phase in my life, as I not only honed my graphic design skills but also ventured into the publishing industry. Until then, this to me was largely an obscure sector in Kenya. The connections formed during this time were pivotal, allowing me to re-establish Eword Publishers, a publishing consultancy firm I had initially registered in 2015. Today, Eword Publishers has produced hundreds of thousands of books and supported numerous writers and authors in their publishing journeys. I have trained a proficient team to manage all critical aspects of publishing, from content creation to book design, proofreading, editing, and distribution. After a hiatus focused on the business of publishing, I have returned to work on my own books, furthering my commitment to contributing meaningfully to the literary world.
