I offer writing and editing services including fiction, non-fiction, content, b2c copy, literature and rhyming stories for children, and academic writing. I work with private individuals and businesses. I am currently the Community Writer in Residence for The Edinburgh International Book Festival. My areas of particular interest include local history and genealogy, family sagas, Jewish culture and history, animals and pets, the arts, modern languages, and Scotland. I can write from experience about family life, accessibility, paediatrics, physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and education and learning support. Having two children aged 7 and 11, I particularly love working on children's books. My writing is concise, grammatically correct and easy to understand, and all material is original. If you ask me to work with you on a family story or a creative piece, my writing will capture and reflect your voice. My second novel 'Connective Tissue' will be published next year by Taproot Press. 'The Tin-Kin' (Duckworth, 2009), was my first novel and it was based on my own family story. It won the 2007 New Writing Ventures Award for Fiction, and the book went on to win the Saltire First Book of the Year Award in 2010. BBC TV’s The Culture Show featured me as one of 2010’s best new novelists. I have since written for BBC Radio and for print magazines. I have a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from the University of the West of Scotland. While completing my doctorate I taught writing to undergraduates, and I now mentor other authors for the Scottish Book Trust.Short Story WritingAudio RecordingGenealogyWritingAudio EditingAd CopyCopy EditingWhite PaperFiction WritingBrand IdentityScriptCreative Writing - $12 hourly

I am a native Spanish speaker with a high level of spoken and written English that thrives to develop a career as a professional writer in the fields I am passionate about. My field of expertise is the History and Archaeology of the Ancient World, However, I have also been involved in projects and works within a wide range of timeframes and topics. Having obtained a Bachelor's Degree in HIstory and after being involved in several archaeological diggings around Spain, I got myself involved in which was, at the moment, the recently created Master's program for Archaeology in the University of La Laguna, in Spain. In this instance, I became not only highly proficient in this scientific field but also deeply familiarized with the internal processes and day to day matters of the academical world from an administrative point of view, as I was a participant in the program for the evaluation, implementation and performance of said Masters. I have also been awarded on several occasions for short stories, appointed by prestigious writers from the Spanish literary world and am currently working in more short stories and a novel that I hope seen published one day. Lastly, I am currently involved in the customer service industry for a prestigious and outstanding global company in the BPO industry, that is allowing me to grow as a professional in an office environment, with direct contact with clients and customers from all around the world, and emphasizing the writing formats in different channels, including web publishing.Short Story WritingScots DialectProofreadingHistorySpanish to English TranslationTranslationSpanish - $10 hourly

Hello, my name is Kai Kerlaff. I am a student from Edinburgh, and I am writing to introduce myself to the UpWork community. I have loved reading for as long as I can remember, and continue to harbour a deep-rooted passion for language and the wonders it allows: the way in which a novel can bring someone else’s world, their thoughts and emotions, into my own mind; the way an article can express the most obscure, complex affairs so that I can understand them in the twenty minutes during breakfast. At the root of this love for reading is my love for grasping new concepts - I find scientific and philosophical observations particularly fascinating, and will stubbornly investigate any problem I find which interests me. Ultimately, in fact, is this not the reason for language itself? I believe writing and speech exist, most fundamentally, for the purpose of exchanging ideas. And ideas are the base of all change, of all revelations; of all that is exciting to me, and to the world. The primary reason for which I have applied to this job is my desire to read these ideas. In terms of writing and proofreading experience - there is only so much one can amass in fifteen years, but the following constitutes my collection: four years of short stories, poems, articles, critical and discursive essays; proofreading and redrafting the aforementioned essays; analysis and comprehension of various articles, also for four years; two entries to the Green Pencil writing award; and completing The Brilliant Club’s “Scholars Programme” for Autumn 2019-20 under phD tutor Emma Sullivan, a programme which culminated in a 2000-word mini-dissertation on the topic of comedy and its impact on society. I also received the writing award for best in year at Craiglockhart Primary, which was judged over the course of my seven years at the school. I have been told my writing is articulate and thoughtful, although occasionally rather verbose. I find correct grammar and punctuation comes quite naturally to me, and I enjoy experimenting with different structures when I write. From my experience editing my own work, I like to think I am thorough and diligent throughout the proofreading process, and I often know instinctively where a mistake has occurred.
