Lightened up by the complexity and, simultaneously, the simplicity of mathematics, since childhood, I have hungrily sought ways to nourish my problem-solving skills in numerous national and international math competitions. I dedicated my 3 years of lifetime to be capable of analyzing, designing, and manufacturing mechanical systems. Firstly, these years allowed me to start defining the mechanical system in terms of its functionality, endurability, safety, liability, utility, and manufacturability. In addition, selection of material with proper mechanical, electric, and thermal properties, safety factors against static and fatigue failures, and lifecycle management were introduced to ensure endurability against the various types of failure of the system. Furthermore, electric drives, thermal machines and fluid power systems were involved on the road to mechanical engineering design. To manage reliability of the design process, the course of study contained dimensional tolerancing, experimental statistics, and mechanical measurements. As one of the main cores of mechanical design, machine component design was the scope of the study to comprehend functionality of mechanical systems. Finally, the path to the mechanical design profession was concluded with proper selection among different manufacturing processes of the materials of interest. To control manufacturability and utility, numerous defects and controlling mechanisms thereof reinforced the conclusion. Although only conventional methods of the design procedure are now assisted by numerical simulation methods such as Finite element analysis or computational fluid dynamics, the degree path did not involve these critical methods. However, it did not stop me from doing my final bachelor thesis on CAD modeling and CFD simulation of 1AR15 two stage pressure relief valve. Having been involved in projects of different kind, my mind came across the notion that the graduate with numerous useful solid projects is far more worth than the graduate with outstanding academic proficiency, but lack of practical experience. To be effective, I keep current in my field of endeavor in several ways. Mainly, I constantly follow the American society of mechanical engineers, society of manufacturing engineers and numerous social feeds of technological enterprises. I also often attend online meetings and conferences to meet professionals and possibly extend my social network. Success in engineering lies largely in technical competence but if ideas are not clearly communicated, technical proficiency cannot compromise at key infrastructure that bears the responsibility of human safety. Since the design process involves technical or nontechnical oral presentations, communication skills are also of high importance. In other words, hard skills get you hired, soft skills get you promoted.
