After a client brief, here is the design process I use for every project:
1. Programming - This entails doing research, the use of case studies, that is studying what has already been done before in reference to your design problem. I then make a proposal of how the space will look like, solving the design problem and making the design unique to your needs and wants.
2. Conceptualization - It entails coming up with sketches, 2d drawings, floor plan and perspectives that enable you, the client, to have a first visualization of how the space will look like, putting into considering your brief and the research. It's basically putting down the proposal on paper. Here, the client can make changes, say, for the floor plan and this makes sure that the client is satisfied before moving the 2d design to the computer.
3 Design development - After changes have been made and the client is happy and satisfied, I transfer the 2d design to ArchiCAD, draw out the floor plan and model the plan in 3d, that is adding furniture, lighting systems, color, textures and people if necessary. After this I render the scene in different angles, according to what the client wants and ultimately delivering 3d images that show the client the final result. The client can make changes if need be, but because of the good communication through out the whole design process, changes here are minimal.
As a bonus, if the client would like, I can make them an inspiration board showing exactly where they can purchase the furniture, lighting systems, etc. that I've used in the space, making it easier for them to implement the design. Saving them more time and money since they don't have to hire any more help.
