As an expert in systems and nexus thinking, I tackle complex challenges by focusing on the interplay among technical, environmental, economic, and socio-political elements. Coupled with an extensive background in multidisciplinary engineering and data science, I develop solutions that are truly unique, practical, and effective. I spent four years with a climate tech startup specializing in corporate greenhouse gas emissions accounting as a consultant and data solutions lead. I worked with clients to identify and calculate their Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, as well as their supply chain emissions. Subsequently, I assisted them in devising decarbonization strategies to meet their climate goals, following the GHG Protocol, the Science-Based Targets Initiative, and various regional, country, and sector-specific frameworks. I was the lead consultant for several large multinational companies whose total annual emissions & revenue exceeded 500,000 tonnes and $10 billion, respectively. My proven track record in consulting is a testament to my ability to deliver results. I provided subject matter expertise and significant technical support for other clients whose emissions approached 100 million tonnes (higher than the combined emissions of two New York Cities). These clients came from various industries, including water, retail, aerospace, logistics, and finance, among others—including one representing an entire industry—so I’ve gained extensive knowledge & the capability to quickly learn about new topics. As a Data Solutions Lead at the same startup, I helped establish a new cross-departmental team that collaborated with software engineers, consultants, and product designers. Our functions were to (a) provide internal subject matter expertise company-wide; (b) develop custom tools to aid the services team to more expediantly & reliably deliver better results & outcomes to our clients; (c) ensure each department was aligned with a shared understanding of GHG accounting concepts & data; and (d) build, maintain, & automate a data repository workflow of dozens of datasets, so the Services and Engineering departments were to assured to have a consistent & reliable database. With the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), I had consulted on four of their projects over the past six years, two of which were in partnership with the Santa Fe Institute (SFI). Of those, my role as a systems thinking expert for judicial reform in Burkina Faso is notable: (a) I supported the design and creation of systems thinking training content; (b) helped develop & run workshops for in-country stakeholders; (c) processed & analyze the large amount of qualitative & quantitative information; (d) aided in strategizing plans to address issues of performance and trust—all while working in a highly cross-cultural environment across multiple time zones. Also with USIP, I developed and implemented a graph data science approach to clean, visualize, and analyze political corruption networks in Bosnia and Herzegovina using the NetworkX and SciKit-Network libraries in Python, and communicated those findings to a diverse audience of policymakers, Bosnian officials, and other researchers. I have extensive academic and research experience, holding four interdisciplinary engineering degrees, including a doctorate in modeling the dynamics of complex systems related to transdisciplinary sustainable development issues. While writing my dissertation—and on very short notice—I created and taught an entire course in systems engineering and life-cycle assessment at Metro State University as an affiliate professor, providing mentorship and academic guidance. There are currently 17 peer-reviewed publications to my name in scholarly journals, conferences, and book chapters across various topics, including complex systems science, environmental sustainability, international sustainable development, peacebuilding, and political corruption, as recognized by the United Nations, the System Dynamics Society, the American Society for Engineering Education, and the International Sustainable Development Research Society, among others. Published in Environmental Research Letters, my postdoctoral research with the Renewable & Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI) explores the effects of climate & energy policy on the global energy sector. Using Python, the data is drawn from multiple sources, requiring extensive cleaning, manipulation, and processing with NumPy and Pandas. This data is then mapped onto national and subnational climate and energy policies for every power plant on the planet. Additionally, I have been responsible for geocoding to fill in missing location data using the Requests & GeoPy libraries and performing geospatial analysis in QGIS. I tell insightful stories with my data by creating complex yet easily understood visualizations using Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, STELLA (system dynamics software), and QGIS, among other tools.SQL
