Continuing this trajectory, I eventually gained the position of Exhibitions and Cultural Engagement Coordinator at The Glasgow School of Art in 2016. This role was key in the project management and deliverance of all aspects of the Exhibitions and Cultural Engagement programme within the school. The role was heavily public-facing, as a clear link of responsibility and communication from staff to participating artists/curators, to the students and the public. The responsibilities the position involved: liaising with a wide spectrum of people in and outwith The Glasgow School of Art; aiding the Exhibitions Director in delivering a high-quality programme of large-scale contemporary events and exhibitions (up to 40 per year); maintaining a safe, healthy and inclusive workspace with professional development opportunities at the core; delivering a specified Cultural Engagement programme alongside that of the gallery; maintaining the presence of the gallery via print, online, and social media platforms; staff management; working with finance systems and maintaining the budget; and overall project management. The position required a great deal of flexibility and an open-minded approach to every task. Due to the busy nature of the work, the ability to multi-task and maintain a high level of quality work under pressure was essential. Alongside my studies and work, I have continuously supplemented with various freelance work as a writer, semiotics consultant and voice actor. I have enjoyed the variety of these briefs offered to me, and always completed jobs well and to deadline.
