However, in all that time practicing medicine as my day job, I was also privileged to indulge (in my spare time,) a second and equally enduring passion. Reading, writing, conversing, debating in the English language have always seemed a part of me, a living, breathing component of my daily existence, vibrantly and irrepressibly manifesting itself whenever I’ve had any opportunity to put pen to paper, be it at written examinations, or in professional papers and reports. I have read hundreds of thousands of publications from just about every area of literature - comics, magazines, novels, and other books from virtually every genre known to man, from romance to spy thriller, from wildlife to astronomy, from science fiction to medicine. Yes, medicine. I hold the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB;BS) degrees, as well as the Master of Public Health degrees from the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos, Nigeria. And my choice of Public Health as a specialty? Who is to say that didn’t have to do with the opportunity to continue writing, reading and editing reports? Health-based publications this time, thousands of them in those sixteen years, but fully in keeping with my passion for reading, for writing, and building capacity. With an eye on further improving my already considerable editing and proofreading skills, I have taken time to complete multiple relevant courses from acclaimed online training institutions. Even with the rigors of my day job, I still managed to work as principal editor for 9 (nine) non-health-related books since 2015. I have completed work on two others that are awaiting publication; and I am also involved in three other works from which the authors have taken a brief sabbatical to recharge their creative batteries. Particulars of these works are listed below, and all the authors/would-be authors can be contacted for a brief on how my unrelenting attention to detail, my passion for enhancing literary capacity, and my obsession for overall excellence has impacted their works. A key component of my work is the detailed feedback I provide my clients, using TRACK CHANGES, a subset of the REVIEW function on MS Word. This function enables me to make corrections, insertions and deletions to the manuscript while retaining the original text. The “comments” component of “REVIEW” allows me to comprehensively explain why selected changes have been made to the text, and this in no small way enhances the author’s capacity towards current and other work. Nothing in any work I agree to do escapes scrutiny; no comma is left in place when the grammatically appropriate punctuation would be a semi-colon, no tense is left unchecked, and clumsy, overly long sentences are appropriately re-arranged. Multiple drafts of the work are exchanged with my authors before a “final copy” is agreed upon. I am something of a perfectionist, and I am very, very good at what I do.
