Performs a variety of technical tasks involved in operating x-ray equipment to make radiographs of designated body positions. Adjust equipment for proper radiographic exposure techniques in accordance with radiation safety guidelines Assists in the quality assurance program. Coordinates and schedules the department's monthly meetings and in- service education. Oversees the maintenance and cleanliness of radiology equipment and film processors. Maintains policies and procedures for radiation safety and infection control. Assists in monitoring good customer/patient relations. Assists in scheduling inpatients and outpatients. Provides training for new incoming staff. Performs the duties of a radiologic technologist. -Radiologic Technologist Staff: Accurately provide pertinent patient information/history to the physician/physician assistant according to procedure protocol. Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous methods and techniques and universal precautions. Cleans and prepares equipment surfaces in accordance with established infection control. Advises radiologists or referring physicians of significant abnormalities that would require their immediate attention and visualization while the patient is undergoing examination. Performs x ray, CT scan, ultrasound (limited to male patients) and operates radiographic c-arms for patient’s procedures and surgeries performed in operating room. Positions imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination. Monitors the patient’s physical condition during the course of the procedure. Review and evaluates developed x-rays or computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. Develops and maintains patient preparation procedures so that patients and wards understand the proper preparations for different procedures in an effort to minimize delays of examinations. Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations. Radiation Safety Officer Oversees all facets of the daily operations of the organizational unit, ensuring compliance with the DOH guidelines. Interprets new and existing regulations, advises leadership on technical and regulatory issues regarding the strategic direction of the radiation safety program applies strategic measures as appropriate. Manages programs of critical importance; works with leadership, individual principal investigators, and the radiation safety staff in the development and implementation of new proposals as well as the coordination and administration of existing projects within the radiation safety program. Oversees the review of radiation human-use clinical research protocols to ensure proper disclosure of radiation exposure and ensure compliance with University policies and local, state and federal regulations. Prepares reports and other forms of scientific or technical nature, including publishing and revising the Department Radiation Safety Manual and Unit SOP's as appropriate and performs an annual audit of the Radiation Safety Program.
