    My name is Fran, I’m an enthusiastic and ambitious content editor, translator and writer with a Bachelor’s degree in Literature, Marketing and Drama. I’m bilingual in German and English and I have over 5 years of experience. I’m currently living in Leeds and working on various projects including developing and editing content for digital marketing companies with different areas such as lifestyle, travel, gaming and culture. I moved to England 2.5 years ago to study Cinematography and Scriptwriting in Brighton. During the course I wrote and directed two short films and collaborated with other filmmakers on a variety of projects including a documentary on homelessness. Besides that, I worked as a content editor and production assistant for BBC Teach German. The outcome was an educational online series with 10 episodes to help British students to learn German. As one of the key members of the project I was responsible for a number of roles ranging from editing and rewriting scripts to creating content and translating (for German and English authorities, contributors, editors and producers) which helped to improve my ability to work flexibly across a variety of roles, communicate with a wide range of people, both face-to-face and over email, and meet tight deadlines. Before I relocated to Brighton, I studied in Berlin and Glasgow where I was actively involved in several theatre productions, mainly as dramaturg and director. During my studies I worked as a freelance writer for an online lifestyle magazine. In my spare time, I like to write reviews and articles, edit content and create the illustrations for the music blog Skewed Quiff, that I run with my partner.

    Being a Translator is exactly what you would think it is like. I am doing a job where efficiency and accuracy are very important. If there is a saying that time is money, that is perfectly applicable to a translator. Also, to be a good translator, communication skills are crucial both for pre-production and post-production. Luckily, I’m obsessed with time management and organised work that makes translation more efficient. It brings such a genuine joy to my heart to translate a passage in a short space of time based around the use of various CAT tools. In the meantime, my sales experience was an excellent opportunity to practice the exact use of words in communication. I know how different words would be properly used in different contexts, different speakers' position or audiences. Thus, that is my way to define what every word means for the locals. Along with this, six years of medical background in the cardiovascular department, and two of them in orthopedics and vascular surgery fields pushed me to be a quick learner – I was rated as an outstanding student while I had a 15-day training for new stuff in Bayer, the field which was much wider and more complicated than I had previously experienced. My parents are my absolute rock and have helped me to really understand my purpose. I truly just want to find what I love and realize myself in a down-to-earth manner. Trying different things is the original intention of my passion for English-Chinese translation, the need for novelty, and curiosity drives me to devote myself into the translation industry.
