Protected Area Work
I have been a writer my entire life. I have published 260 academic, trade, and popular articles in over 100 different journals and magazines. I have also published four books and completing a fifth from a fictional sci-fi novel, academically researched book on holistic planning, a college textbook on heritage interpretation, and a how to guide on strong interpretive theme writing.
As early as high school and college, I have founded and edited a variety of publications both literary and reportorial. Since I have been a freelance editor working on people's resumes/CVs, research papers (I am also an associate editor for the Journal of Interpretation Research, the only non-PhD associate editor), college entrance essays, proposals, and other kinds of documents.
As a bilingual writer and editor, I also translate from Spanish to English.
My work often tends to focus on social and environmental issues, but by no means limited to that.

I also am a photographer and work on Adobe Creative Suite. High proficiency in LightRoom and InDesign and lower proficiency in Photoshop and Premier, and very basic use of Illustrator.
PROTECTED AREA WORK
Since I worked with RARE Center for Tropical Conservation in Honduras as a naturalist guide trainer in 1997, I noticed that strategic park plans across Latin America usually end unimplemented. Yet parks respond with more resources: money, personnel, time, political will, and information. In effect, almost no one questions assumptions underlying the entire approach. This led to founding the Public Use Planning Program at RARE, which soon involved UNESCO World Heritage Centre. In 2006 it became a UNESCO consultant project working around the world to develop a process that helps sites create their own plans and implement them.
In 2013, the project turned into the PUP Global Heritage Consortium which helps communities manage and protect natural and cultural heritage by means of our action learning network and evolving Integral tools and approaches.
As a result of my work with RARE, UNESCO, and PUP, I have worked all over the world in conservation-related matters.

I am known internationally for my work in heritage interpretation, that is, that branch of communications commonly used to deepen relationships between audiences and interpreted natural and cultural heritage. I have extensive experience in interpretive tour guide training, interpretive planning, and interpretive writing. I have written two books on interpretive theme writing as well as Latin America's first college textbook on heritage interpretation in Spanish with a coauthor.
