As a graduate translation/interpretation major, I specialize in conducting meaningful and quality translations between English and Vietnamese. I have been in this field for almost 8 years, so I have an effective strategy for this work. As the world progresses, reaching out to other people from different nations with the help of technology has never been more convenient. Along with that, the need to understand and effectively communicate with one another also increases. As such, translation and interpretation become a modern-day necessity. Allow me to explain what I meant: Of course, I do not claim to be the best translator you can find. However, I can prove myself valuable by being willing to do these 4 things: - Go the extra mile. I am ready to spend time doing careful research on the field you require in both languages to provide the closest translation possible. - Stay for extra hours. I do not follow the traditional 9 to 5 working hour scheme. I am motivated to work until my clients receive their products with satisfaction. - Exchange knowledge. I know a knowledgeable person is a reliable one. Still, one man can not claim that he knows everything. Whenever there are gaps in my knowledge, I am willing to communicate and ask for your insights instead of trying to solve the problem myself and risking messing things up. - Take feedback. I am eager to hear your thoughts on my work and make changes to meet your requirements. Unlike many false speculations that “being fluent in a language is the only important feature to become a translator”, I believe that translation is not about finding the correct equivalents to a term but fully conveying the message to the listener/reader. This process needs not only proficiency in language usage but also a deep understanding of the cultures and its people’s perspectives - what makes sense to the audience and what does not. With that belief, I am willing to put in extra effort to make sure the translation is understandable to the target audience while still preserving the spirit of the original context. I’ve realized, the biggest problem when it comes to translation is the fact that most translators do not understand what they are dealing with. People tend to jump right into the translating process without looking up the actual context of the source language to get the general ideas and adapt to how it would sound to the audience in the target language. This often leads to the final product being absurd and unnatural to the receivers. Thus, carefully analyzing the given source to plot out its message, as well as finding out in advance the target audience’s preference in language usage, are to be done before any translating process begins. If I have the pleasure to work with you, all I need is to know about your target audience and what message you want them to understand. That information will be enough for me to do my best.
