I am an Australian citizen preparing to sell products on Amazon USA marketplace. My company is incorporated in Australia and the business operations are carried out only in Australia. I am not a US citizen or resident.
The products will be live on Amazon USA web site around first week of August 2018. I was advised by friends who are also Amazon USA sellers to obtain an Employer Identification Number (EIN) for the purpose of exporting products to the USA. After obtaining an EIN number from the IRS, the IRS sent me a letter stating that I have to submit Form 1120F by September this year.
I only planned on selling on Amazon USA marketplace, no other forms of selling in the US. I have no business entity in the US.
When I signed up for Amazon Seller Central account, it requested me to complete a W-8BEN-E form which I did. My understanding is that this is a US tax exemption form if I am correct?
I would like to know whether it was correct for me to apply for EIN number in the first place? If yes, would you be able to assist me in submitting Form 1120F by September this year, advise what needs to be done, the cost and whether this needs to be carried out every year?
