WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR:
I am looking to have a Logo designed for my upcoming restaurant; "8-Bit Arcade, Bar, and Restaurant". I am building a new brand of Barcade. One which is a fusion of a sit-down casual restaurant, combined with the new trend of Bar/Retro-Arcades. The images designed need to be readily available so I can add them to my menu, business cards, uniforms, and posters/banners.
BACKGROUND ABOUT THE PROJECT:
While most Barcades that are operating in the Southern California area are focused on retro games, usually made prior to 1995, we will be including cabinets from the later eras up into current generation of cabinets.
I am open to suggestions regarding what our Logo should be, but I have had some sample ideas discussed and even a few drawn (unpaid). Previously, I asked a friend to spend an hour or two to develop a Logo for our brand, and he designed an anthropomorphic piece of pizza. However, I currently have envisioned an anthropomorphic arcade cabinet that is holding a drink in one hand and food in the other. The only thing similar I have found online is the Anthropomorphic Arcade Cabinet that attacks people at the beginning of the 80s parody movie Kung Fury, which is close to what I envisioned. With this in mind, while we are technically a Barcade, the logo cannot be as vulgar as a middle-finger touting kung fu arcade machine as it will be displayed on all of our menus, t-shirts, promotional materials, and even (with the city's blessing) on the building itself.
Additionally, our Logo should be something that that evokes childhood nostalgia. With the name of 8-Bit, I hope to evoke a nostalgic feel in bringing guests into a favorable time where the only worry was to get through the next level of Mario or Zelda. As such, 2-D and early 3-D games are the experience we hope to draw heavily from. With that said, even though our name is 8-Bit, we technically don't need the logo to be only in 8-Bit (as it looks a bit too blocky to translate well).
In fact, our menu is completely and totally inspired by video games. Both in taste and name, we have designed our menu to have a video game feel. I want our Logo to be a reflection of that.
WHO IS AN IDEAL DESIGNER TO WORK WITH:
To me, the ideal designer is someone who both loves video games and has worked on them in the past. Additionally, experience with 2-D art is an absolute must.
Furthermore, the ideal designer is someone who is willing to engage in a discussion of what and why they made the design choices they have. I do not mind if you want to discuss your ideas, even if they are completely different than what I had in mind. As long as you can coherently talk out what you are thinking, I'd be happy to see a different direction. I am flexible in that regard.
I have uploaded a few items from our menu so that you can get an idea of what we have and the atmosphere of the menu. Additionally, I have uploaded the sample Logo design my friend designed for free, and the Kung Fury Arcade Cabinet image.
If the Logo design goes well and you are willing to do more work, more work in regards to the business card design and help with the website design will be available to you.
