We are an educational gaming company (using Unity game engine) and we are creating a epically ambitious 2D game for 4-6 year old kids, to help make the world a better place. For more info on us, please check out www.learningyogi.org or www.atlasmission.com
Although most of our game is in 2D we have decided to make our main character (Atlas Finch, the robot) be 3D to give us long term flexibility. It's super important that this 3D character should fit in our 2D game without looking too different. This character was originally in 2D, and we are now replacing him with the 3D model.
All of our artwork is 2D and will continue to be in 2D. Please don't suggest to us to turn everything into 3D - it's just not an option :)
One of our senior artists has created the 3D model, the rig, and baked the texture in Blender for our main character. As 3D is not our main expertise I want to hire someone who understands both Blender and Unity as a consultant for us. We are about ready to start animating, but we need to make sure that the model/rig is the best it can be for our purposes.
Essentially your job is to double check our work!
So we would hand over the rig/model to you - let you analyse it, and then you jump on a call with us to let us know how we did and what we could do to make it better and how. If we've done a good job, then let us know why!
So in a nutshell, what we need specifically is someone to:
a) Look over the rig and model and give suggestions on how and what to improve (if at all)
b) Look at the final baked texture, and look at it inside unity - could you make it look any more 2D and closer to the original 2D character than what we have?
c) Work with our artist to offer suggestions of anything else we need to keep in mind to get the desired outcome (best rig/model/render possible for our purpose).
I have attached a few pictures for you to see where we are currently at.
- Our 2D Atlas character (Atlas Finch.png & Atlas Finch Glasses On.png)
- The original model (I asked for improvements on the face only) (atlas mockup.jpg)
-The improved face close up (Atlas improved.png)
- An example of one of our 2D backgrounds we have and some of our other 2D characters. (australia-outback.jpg) These 2D characters will need to be on screen at same time as the 3D Atlas robot so they shouldn't look too different.
