We are currently developing a Business English course for US high school (9-12 grade) students that maps to the NGSS standards. Along with NGSS, the course will also address Louisiana state standards that correlate to the subject. The content will be in electronic form, and the courses will be delivered online to students. The lessons in these courses will include tutorials and assessments. This project will continue for next 2-3 months and will have regular work for the writers.
The main tasks in the project include:
Writing the lessons designs in MS Word templates, which will include a combination of instructional text and interactions, and a set of objective assessment items to test students. These lesson storyboards will include the audio and onscreen content, and also descriptions of the elements on screen for the development of multimedia, which our graphics team will use to produce the electronic lessons. The units that are covered under this course are Writing for Business, Electronic Correspondence and Digital Media, Types of Business Correspondence, Making Use of Good Design, Visual Aids, and Speaking Skills, etc.
The intent is to produce original and engaging content that can hold high school students' attention. We aim to create engaging instructional text without sacrificing rigor and accuracy. For this reason, these courses should not read like textbooks, but be interesting while still being educational. Note that these courses are meant for US students whose first language is English (US). The course content must be aligned to the NGSS and state standards and should develop reading and writing, as well as listening and speaking skills. The primary focus will be on writing skills.
The writer will be provided a lesson outline on which to base the lesson content – this lesson outline will have precise instructions about the sections and the kind of content that the lesson should include, as well as some resources for writing. After submitting the lesson design for review, the writer will have to make fixes based on the review notes (in track changes and comments) that we provide and submit it again for compliance review. The word count of the lessons is between 2500-3500 and Lexile 990-1050.
