this is a small consultancy project.

I have a customer involved in the data analysis business; they actually come back to clients with bunches of excel files containing tables and diagrams (mainly scatter diagrams) generated with statistical analysis tools like R.

This generates a number of problems as the clients are not able to efficiently get the concepts behind the results, neither can filter or manipulate the data.

So they contacted me to build a custom solution able to help their clients in getting better value for money.

To give a feeling, I gave them a quick demo with Google Fusion Tables and they liked a lot the concept.

The system should be able to manage efficiently a rather large number of contracts for different clients.

Each contract should be constituted by 1 or more data tables .

There should be the possibility to build various charts  based on the data columns (for example scatter charts showing the relation among two columns)
dynamically adding various filterrs

There should be the possibility to build and show tabular views built merging different columns

There should be the possibility to add custom views showing specific details or actions or internet queries.

There should be the possibility to produce a pdf reporting of the analysis and to save different analysis configurations for each contract

I am aware that my exposition is confused but the actual situation is that this is a complex environment.

I was thinking to various possibilities :

1. Go ahead with a Google based solution : Google Spreadsheet+Fusiontables+Scripting

2. Customize an open source LIMS (if you don't know what I'm speaking about don't bother to answer)

3. Customize or build some sort of portal system based on some largely available CMS

For charting and tabular visualization I was thinking to a javascript solution

This project will be awarded to 1-3 proposals really consistant from operative and technological point of view.

I will consider only requests strating with : visualization reporting system.

The request will be to deliver a refined proposal document based on the proposed idea and on my comments. I'm thinking to something short, no more than 5-6 pages describing architecture, technologies, growth capabilities and so on.

If possible I would avoid heavy Java Enterprise Solutions, they are a pity to build, customize and debug.

I will privilege Web 2.0 proposal strongly oriented to the use of an advanced Javascript layer

I will privilege solutions based on Open Source or low cost components

Other samples to get ideas could be or pages built with Google Visualization libraries
