I´m an artist currently based in Lima-Peru, and I´m working on a project involving the use of an EEG Headband, like the NeuroSky, or the Emotiv. Artists have used this device before in various ways, using brain signals to generate effects, like the piece Eunoia (https://creators.vice.com/en_uk/article/yp5wk7/artist-manipulates-48-pools-of-water-with-her-mind)
I need to create a software that interprets brainwaves to produce generative art. The piece will be exhibited in a gallery, where audience members will be able to wear the headband, visualize the art generated by their brain states, and screen cap it allowing them to become owners of their individually generated art pieces. I will connect a computer to a projector, and the EEG headband to the computer, so that output can be visualized in a large format.
For this project, the freelancer hired will have to do the following:
1) Select the best EEG headband for the project, depending on the level of complexity this can vary between US$ 299 to 799. There are various kinds of headbands, providing a trade-off of preciseness and pricing. I will send funds for the purchase so that the freelancer can use the device for the development of the software
2) Generate the software that interprets brain waves. The software should allow for the capturing of the images produced
3) Send the EEG Headband to me via DHL or any other courier when we are done.
The generative art created by the detection of brain waves should have a distinct aesthetic. If possible, it should be similar to the kind of granular landscapes created using XGen in Maya, I am attaching reference images for this. The idea is that the pieces created work as "Mental landscapes". Depending on the headband we purchase, there are a series of variables (one per type of brainwave) which we can determine would generate a specific variation to the landscape, etc.
