We are the creative team for a new music-theater/opera work that we hope to find a presenter for and have produced in Hungary, Austria, or elsewhere in Europe or the USA. We are seeking someone to help with research and a mailing to promote the work to potential producers, theaters, and festivals.
The work has a strong Hungarian subject matter with an anniversary in 2018 (It is based on the life of a Hungarian medical visionary and national hero who was born in 1818). So it is both time- and culture-sensitive. While this is a theater work we believe will eventually have an impact worldwide, we wish to take advantage of this upcoming anniversary year to have performances in Hungary.
We wish to let potential presenters and producers know of an important pre-premiere showing we've been invited to give at a prestigious arts club in New York this September (2017). We hope it may help us get the word out and find opportunities to tour the work to theaters in Europe, the US, and beyond.
So we are looking for someone to do the research to identify all appropriate theaters, beginning with Hungarian and Austrian cities, and likely expanding from there to other European cities, and even the US. We would like you to identify the professionals within their organization who may have influence over works chosen to present, and populate a data sheet that will allow us to do both an email mailing and a parallel paper mailing, and then to help us process that mailing to the point of providing us individual pdf files that we can print ourselves and mail from our base in New York.
We are looking for someone with experience in online research to compile a listing (in Excel, Numbers, or Google docs) of key personnel (i.e. producers, artistic directors, executive directors) within theaters, performing arts centers, and performing arts festivals that may produce new works involving music (i.e. music theater and opera), and mail-merging the data to create printable PDFs for us to mail from our base in New York.
The Hungarian cities of greatest interest are Budapest, Sopron, and Pécs. And in Austria, Vienna and Salzburg. But listings for major theaters and festivals in smaller cities also must be compiled. Once these cities have been covered, we may wish to move on to other European cities.
Theaters of fewer than 200 seats can be excluded from the list.
Theaters and festivals that clearly do not present works involving music may be excluded, but in cases where there is uncertainty, we would favor including them on the listing as a safety. Personnel needed would be primarily producers and artistic directors, as well as executive director (especially in cases where no producer or artistic director is given). If possible, we would like a contact for BOTH an artistic director and producer (or producers if there exists more than one).
Other job titles that would imply that a person may have upper-level input as to the selection of music-theatrical works produced would be of interest. Where questions arise during the progress of the work these titles can be further considered and clarified with us as needed.
We do not need info on managing directors or personnel involved with regular operations and facilities.
In cases where only a general information contact is given, we would like you to contact (via phone/skype or email) that theater to inquire as to contact information for the organization’s producer(s) and artistic director.
Once the database has been completed, you will need to format a standard Word letter document, which I will give to you, by inserting the name/address into each document. The formatted letters will be emailed back to me in .pdf form. Information needed for each person to be placed in the database is:
* name of professional
* professional title
* name of the organization
* email address of individual
* organization or theatre mailing address
* organization or the theater’s website address
* telephone number
Pay would be hourly. Skills needed:
• Good communicational English language abilities
• Experience in online research
• Skill in compiling and formatting of a comprehensive spreadsheet (starting from a given Excel file), with email
• Hungarian and/or German language abilities is a plus, but not necessarily essential.
