Please note: Please ONLY apply to do this job in OUR style. We will not be able to accept any applications for any other style. We have a set style that needs to be copied. Your work will need to fit perfectly with our pre-existing work.
Want to do something fun, work with amazing creatives and also help to make the world a better place at the same time?
We are looking for artists who can work with OUR STYLE to illustrate one of our backgrounds (and the needed elements for the background). If successful, we're actually looking for the same artists to work for us on an ongoing basis (we have extended work contracts available right now for interactive games, stories and more). This is like a test to working with us in the future.
Who are we:
We are a social startup called Learning Yogi and we are on a mission to help disadvantaged kids have access to quality education through games. Check out learningyogi.org and atlasmission.com for more info on us.
Skills you will need:
- ability to see what our style is and copy it
- character design skills
- background design skills
- understanding of layout
- consistency of design
- ability to take on a lot of feedback (the work MUST fit our style!)
- an excellent understanding of Adobe Photoshop
To be an exceptional person for this job you will need to:
- Depict a character and background in a way to reflect what that location actually feels like (No stereotypes, no generic illustrations)
- Have an understanding of what will appeal to our age group (4-6 year olds)
- Have an eye for detail and layout (how do you best fit in all the requirements into one screen).
- Know how to work smart (many elements can be doubled up to save time etc).
Our current requirement:
1. 1 x "world screen"
(could be a screen depicting a place in Australia, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, India, South Africa, UK, Underground, USA).
2. 2 x 'Factoids' - You will need to create 2 objects/characters that will be prepared for animation which will fit in the world screen. We call these factoids, because when kids tap on it, they will learn a fact about it.
World Screen - Indian rooftops at night time
Factoids - a) Taj Mahal b) Monkey
World Screen - Australian Outback
Factoids - a) Ayers Rock b) Windmill and water tank
World Screen - UK Countryside
Factoids - a) Stonehenge b) Bagpipe player
Our budget is: $120 USD (inclusive of Upwork fees)
You will need to:
a) Complete the work within 6 days including feedback
(the speed at which we draw in-house is 2-3 days so you need to be able to fit into 6 days for your first go)
b) Design a background with multiple that fits the location (MUST BE IN OUR STYLE)
c) Hand over all original PSD files and help with export if required (must be done in Photoshop)
d) Use the pen tool to create shapes (easier for us to make changes if necessary)
e) Organise your PSD with as many layers and folders as necessary so that it's easy for export and animation. All layers need to be labelled appropriately.
Once you start working with us, you will need to sign a contract and we will hand over all supporting materials to help you (including our style guide, textures, brushes, colour palettes etc). We are here to support you, drawing in our style isn't tricky, but it might take a bit of work for you to first get it. We will get you to first create your factoid objects (could be a character, could be a vehicle or a plant etc). Once those are approved, we will get you to do sketches for layout, get those approved and then add colour and details.
PLEASE ONLY APPLY if you believe you have the skills needed and are able to consistently draw in our style. At future times we may have a requirement for different art styles, but for now we need you to fit into this - as this will determine if you could work with us on an ongoing basis.
English is a must as we communicate only through English.
We have attached a few examples of pre-existing worlds and factoids. Yours would need to fit in with these.
We would love to hear from you if you're up for the challenge!
