As part of strategic planning for a new media fact checking project, we need to identify (1) issues that are likely to be important and emotional in the 2018 midterm U.S. elections, and that (2) about which there is reliable data available.
Your job will be to cross reference available polling data to find issues of critical importance. The ideal issues will be ones about which people have an emotional investment. Healthcare, immigration, U.S. government spending, are all possibilities you should consider (though don't be limited by this list)!
The next step is to look for sources of reliable data--however organized--that can be accessed regarding these issues.
Your work product will be a rank ordered list recommending both the topics and sources of data. The #1 item on your list will be the hottest topic that has reliable data. This will be a judgment call, so please explain your reasoning. Numbers 2-5 will be ranked following the same criteria.
Explain clearly all of the following (A) each of the 5 topics and why they were chosen, (B) the source or sources of data available for that topic, and why those source(s) should be considered reliable, (C) any costs or hurdles related to accessing that data, i.e. is the data source free or not? Is the data spread out among many different databases that would have to be compiled?
