Pocket Arcade Race House Preliminary Game Description
Pocket Arcade: Race House is an arcade style racing game with a target audience of kids 4+. It is a physical real toy based racing game that utilizes the toy car as its main input to the game. The toy car is placed on the screen to resemble the player’s car. This Car has color sensors in its bottom to get operation codes of game status and perform light and vibration feedback accordingly.
The racing is controlled through the tilting of the deice. Original reference used tilting to left and right and we have added forward and backward tilting to increase and decrease speed. There is a jumping function that can be initiated by pressing on a physical button on the top of the toy car.

The main concept of the game is that the player is controlling a small toy car at its real scale. The game preserves the scale ratio between the player’s car and the environment props.
We are planning to go with five tracks featuring cartoon style props and environments. The 3D world is a ready asset purchased from the Unity3D asset store and those five tracks have the following set up: Kids room, Kitchen, Bathroom, beach and Rocky world.
We need a complete comprehensive design for the game to bring fun a long playing hours to the young age player. The following elements needs to be emphasized:
- User control: How to provide an intuitive user control that will keep the fast pace with a good
gameplay challenge for kids.
- Tracks design: with inserting fun ideas using the elements available in the gaming world.
- AI NPC description: We need to inform the developers of how to program the AI car to behave
- The coherence of continued gameplay: What will bring the player back to the game? We need a
long term objective to the gameplay and the steps to unlock gaming experience through
- Sound effects and background scores.
- GUI style and user affordance.
The following Google Play link contains the proof of concept for the game to facilitate conceptualizing. It is currently implemented to use the accelerometer of the device to turn and accelerate.
