I'm looking for someone to work with me to remove the non-free and proprietary software from the Ubuntu kernel. We'll start with the backported kernel version 3.5 in Ubuntu version 12.04 ("Precise Pangolin")
The process essentially involves running the kernel source code a script to remove these non-free components, and producing cleaned up kernel source packages that can then be successfully compiled and used on Ubuntu systems.
I have a good deal of the work done already but need help from someone to complete it so you'd be assisting me in an advisory capacity.
The ideal candidate for this is someone familiar with the Ubuntu GNU/Linux distribution and their packaging system. They would also be good with shell scripting because the scripts I linked to here may need to be modified since they're designed for the vanilla Linux kernel at kernel.org and the Ubuntu Kernel Team makes many modifications to the kernel.
Ongoing work may be needed in order to keep up on security and other updates that the Ubuntu developers publish. Ideally this process could be automated as much as possible.
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in working on, please talk to me.
