This press release only needs to be 300 words. If you can do this in the next few hours please let me know. I'll need you to send me at least 1 paragraph and if I'm happy with it, I'll hire you for this job and one more.

Tu P Bio:

There’s no easy box to tick for Brisbane artist Tu P.

A doctor and a hip-hop artist, a proud Aussie and the son of refugees, a writer and performer – his identity is shaped by a flood of experience, and his music is shaped by his identity.

Tu’s music spans genres, including RnB, crunk, dubstep and electro hop, but throughout his catalogue, he’s drawn on his personal environment, and that of his friends and family, to create music with meaning.

Tu’s not afraid to tackle a diverse range of themes in his tracks. Whether it’s about coming of age, bullying, media stereotypes or the idiosyncracies of the hip hop industry itself, the verses Tu writes and the melodies he performs himself are a bold and fresh arrival on the Brisbane scene.

As well as an artist, Tu is a medical doctor, and has been exposed to the depths of human suffering in the course of his work. His experience treating the sick and dying has grounded him as a person and an artist, and inspired him to talk about social justice in his tracks.

Hip hop is a personal journey for Tu, but not a solitary one. A key part of his artistic direction comes from the input of friends and the community at large. In ‘That Chain’, friends contributed stories about the pendants they wear, which became part of the song’s vocal loop. In the video for ‘Two Flags’, he got friends on board to display the flags of their countries of origin – in effect, broadening the scope of his message to a wider audience.

The son of Vietnamese boat arrivals, Tu was born and raised in the multicultural southwest hub of Brisbane. Despite growing up in this challenging environment, Tu feels shaped more by the mashup of identities he felt – both the privileges and the pressures of experiencing two sets of culture.

Starting to write and record rhymes after becoming dissatisfied with what the mainstream scene was producing, Tu took his lead from hardcore artists like 2pac, Eminem, Bone Thugs N Harmony, DJ Khaled, Busta Rhymes, Chamillionaire, DMX and Tech N9ne, as well as pop-RnB oriented acts like Kid Cudi, Dizzee, Drake, Nelly, Matisyahu, Example, Pitbull and Flo Rida, to create crossover music that could appeal inside and outside the usual rap fanbase.

It took a trip home discovering his roots to eventually get Tu recording seriously – laying his first song down in a cousin’s studio in Saigon.

At any one time, Tu has around a hundred hooks in the bag, and plenty of subject matter and a stack of rhymes to link them with. Having finished recording his debut album "Made of Jade", Tu’s worked with producers with serious reps – Sean B (Hollis, NY), Chuck QB (Canada), J Lewis (Connecticut), Jahbez (Trinidad and Tobago), Flossyboy (Texas) as well as local producer AJP. The album is now available as a CD and digital download from iTunes, CDbaby, Amazon and more.  His songs have been played on the Dalby youth broadcast and 4ZZZ radio, and have been featured on internet radio stations The 24 Hour Radio Network, Artistfirt Radio Network, Dallas106 Hip Hop, Warstories Radio, Hittinlick Radio, Xsite Radio and  There will be an official album launch party planned on the 28 April 2013 at Scorcherfest, at the Spring Hill Hotel, Brisbane.   Whilst promoting his debut, Tu P will be writing and recording his sophomore - with goals to cover new ground and break old moulds.

Bio by Gen Kennedy

"Made of Jade is enjoyably unconventional" Alex Henderson, Journalist and Music Critic for Ariel Publicity.

"Tu’s latest album allows space for all aspects of his life to be talked about, presenting a global experience from one human’s perspective within the span of an hour." "Anyone looking for an album that bucks the trends of mainstream hip-hop will find lots to enjoy on Made Of Jade.  Whether it’s the poignant tale of rebellious youth finding mentorship on 'What’s It Gonna Be' or speaking out against bullying and racial slurs on 'Us Us Us,' Tu P keeps it truly real by being himself." Jason Randall Smith, writer for Impose Magazine and host for Radio BSOTS.
