I am seeking an illustrator for a 28-page comic. This is the first issue of a larger story. The focus now is all about making a really gorgeous first book, building characters, and telling a story.
The page rates are comparable to an indie publisher. This is well-paid work for top-quality art, frequent communication with the writer, and ability to hit deadlines.
You must have solid experience illustrating long-format comics (multiple 20+ page projects).
Project Specs and Details
This is a full-color project. You will be responsible for character design, pencils, and inks. Someone else will handle colors. However, happy to discuss if you really love and have deep experience in coloring.
Pages are standard US comic size.
If you do the cover design, we will negotiate that at a separate rate.
Story and Process
We're building a world and telling a story together, so frequent conversation via email, Slack, and video chat is expected.
This is a dystopian political comedy and some light sci-fi elements (Obviously we're all familiar with that genre so I don't think it bears explanation.) I'm looking for an art style that is essentially realistic, not muscle-bound or high-fantasy. Western, not manga. Clean lines, expressive faces. Most importantly, you know that comedy is in the details.
Points of reference (roughly) for art style:
Frank Quietly / We3
Kevin O'Neill / League of Extraordinary Gentleman, etc.
Fiona Staples / Saga
Mort Drucker / Mad Magazine
David Lapham / Stray Bullets, Young Liars
Adrian Alphona / Ms Marvel
Serious enquiries with experience only. Thanks and let's make something awesome together!
