Hi. I need proofreading and editing for an assignment for a discussion board. Here are the details:
Development Plan for an Employee
Identify an employee or supervisee (it doesn’t have to be someone you employ; it can be a resident in a training program, the director/employee of a non-profit where you sit on the board of directors, or, if necessary, a coworker; I will use the word “employee” to describe the person here) who needs to improve his/her performance at work. Describe what the employee is not doing well, and then propose a development plan for that employee. It’s okay if you don’t have control over that employee’s day-to-day work responsibilities; for the purpose of this exercise, pretend that you do. In your plan, you don’t need to be personally responsible for that employee’s development. In other words, you can suggest that the employee return to school to get a master’s degree, or be paired with a mentor in a different part of the organization, or study transcendental meditation. Incorporate, if necessary, some of the conflict management material we read last week. Post your summary the employee’s problems and your plan to the discussion forum. Change names and details if you want the situation to be confidential. Classmates, please do not share recognizable details of the problem outside of this online setting.
Please write ≤ 350 words. Write as clearly and succinctly as possible - more words do not necessarily make a post better. Read and edit your posting before submitting it.
This is a rare chance to be absolutely frank about an employee’s limitations and how you would guide the employee to fix them.
Respond to last week’s conflict narratives
Respond to at least one other student’s "Conflict Narrative" Discussion Forum post from last week. Use what we have learned so far (management strengths, conflict management, employee development). You might comment on your own experience with a similar problem described by the other student, or suggest other useful learning resources (for example, you might do a web search on other resources). A good response addresses the problem intelligently, engages rigorously with the assigned resources, and communicates respectfully with others in the course.
Your response should be ≤ 350 words.
Her post last week:
Several years ago, I worked in a bank as a lead teller handling customer transactions, balancing coin and money vaults, and managing account paperwork for the bank. On a particularly busy day I had a conflict with a fellow teller, I was helping a customer and needed assistance to help several more customers who had come into the bank. My coworker was in the middle of a task when I asked her to assist me, her response was that she was unable to help. The task she was working on was not time sensitive and the bank’s priority was customer service, but she did not like the idea of stopping in the middle the task. I insisted she finish her task later and help customers, this frustrated her and she later went to our boss so we could all sit down to discuss the issue. Part of the reason this conflict occurred in my opinion is due to my naivety in the workplace as this was my first professional job, but the larger problem was my conflict management style. I scored high on accommodating and I find that I will often neglect my own concerns to resolve an issue quicker and satisfy others more easily. One thing that was confirmed by this assessment is that I do not like conflict and often try to avoid it. I scored high on compromising and low on competing which can be seen when I am less assertive than I should be and tend to give up more in a conflict. The primary issue in this conflict was miscommunication, which at the time I did not discuss more adamantly or advocate my point of view strongly enough when we sat down with our boss. I wanted to explain to my coworker and our boss that my intention was to simply satisfy the bank's top priority of serving customers. I observed that my coworker’s style was more avoidance, she did not wish to discuss the issue with me personally at the time it occurred and instead she went to our boss who did not witness the conflict.
