I'm looking for a computer programmer to help me to create some software (probably in Windows) that will manipulate and process photos so that I can, on a regular basis, compare aerial photos of the same geographical location (eg field or house).
A. Initial Set up
The software must upload a series of photographs.
These will have been taken by me/my company/my clients
using a drone, aeroplane or satellite.
For a small location/field (1 acre) this may
be simply one aerial photograph. For most
fields it will be 2 to 20 photos. In exceptional
circumstances it may be even more.
Before these photos are loaded into the programme,
I (the operator) will identify the parts of each
photograph that are outside of the field (purple below)
and hence to be ignored on all subsequent identical photos.
The next task of the programme must be to find the overlaps between photos. I imagine this will be done via layers, because these layers will then be used on subsequent photos.
So each photo will now comprise of:
a) an area which is outside of the subject matter and to be ignored (purple above)
b) an area that is definitely subject matter and which appears in this photo only, not in any other photos (unmarked above)
c) areas of overlaps. To be subdivided into c)i – areas which overlap in 2 photos only
and c)ii – areas which overlap multiple photos.
The next task will be to select from the areas of c)ii the two “best” photos and it may be that during this setting up process this task might involve human help (ie from operator). Now we must reclassify these as c)i knowing which two photographs are the “ideal” overlaps to use. There may be several c)i areas within each photo.
The areas a), b) and c)i are all displayed and stored as layers on top of the background photo.
The set up is now complete.
B. Running the software – daily, weekly or monthly.
At a subsequent time/date the operators will feed into the software a new series of photos – each one from “exactly” the same GPS position – same height, same place. All the photos of the same field/location should be replicated. They might be a few cm out but that's not vital.
I would like the programme to identify and link each photo (from the GPS information stored within “properties”). ie photo WP7 on 1st February to be compared with photo WP7 on 1st March.
Then to divide each photo (using the set up layers) on each occasion into the same a), b) and c)i as before.
Then to feed back all the b) areas to one file/folder, and then all the c)i areas to a different folder with a note of their corresponding overlap. eg photo13 c)i)a overlaps with photo17 c)i)c.
I will then want the programme to send those folders to different areas of my computer. All in marked folders.
Thats what I need so far. As I have a method of analysing these further, but I may need an extension to the software in future.
