We need a licensed/certified -- mechanical engineer -- that SPECIALIZES in gearing systems.
1) Design and validate an Epicyclic (planetary) gear system with a gear ratio of 170:1
-The input shaft must be able to handle 1,100 ft/lbs of torque at 1,700 RPMs
-The output shaft must produce a fixed 10 RPMs and be able to handle the resulting torque increase.
2) Design and validate an adjustable/variable-speed gearbox that:
-has three operational speeds (low, medium and high)
-low speed is equal to 1 RPM
-medium speed is equal to 5 RPMs
-high speed is equal to 10 RPMs

Both mechanical systems cannot exceed 1 1/2" in diameter and must not extend beyond a combined 3 inches in length, (shorter the better). An ideal total length would be no more than 1-2 inches.
The epicyclic/planetary gear system and adjustable/variable-speed gearbox can be combined into a single system only if the resulting system does not exceed the dimensional size requirements.
This is a 100% mechanical design meaning there are absolutely no electronics, hydraulics or other likewise substituted components allowed. The system(s) must be lightweight, durable and cost-efficient.
Candidates being considered for this job will need to sign a NDA before obtaining additional information, whether written or illustrated, regarding the details of this project.
The successful candidate will work closely with the original designer to conclude a desired finish. All questions related to the design of this project, existing dimensions, design constraints, etc. will need to go through the designer. All questions/feedback that request/require expense or additional time will need to be directed towards the hiring party.
