We have a network drive with files and folders on it and it seems someone has added a lot of leading spaces to the folders over the years. The issue with this we have found is that we go to ftp or copy them they fail. Assuming windows doesn’t like leading spaces in file and folder names .
To be clear it’s something like “ folder1” instead of “folder1”
I need a c# app that will launch, let me point it to a network share location (our NAS) and then run it. It will recursively go through all of the folders and sub folders to update any padding spaces. I’d also like to have it check for illegal characters like : in file names as well. Since we are checking let’s also check for trailing spaces in case someone got sloppy there as well
It should update the file and folders and should be careful not to overwrite the file created date.
When done it should log to txt all of the updates and any failures.
Ideally while it’s running we can see some console output showing it making progress. I don’t need a progress % but would be good to see it scanning and updating in real time.
We can assume windows 8+ and any flavor of .net that you require. Ideally 64 bit and threaded. We have about 30-50k files and maybe 2k folders for it to process
I need this turned in in less than 16 hours from the time this post is posted.
Please make sure your solution doesn’t just assume local files. It needs to be network location since it’s on our NAS
