Our organisations exist in complex environments where they must adapt to thrive. And yet, when faced with a large number of ever-changing factors, we tend to apply reductionist approaches that oversimplify problems or fall prey to confirmation bias. This leads to broken strategies, dysfunctional organisational structures, methods used inappropriately, and a focus on local optimisations at the expense of the big picture. Simply put, organisations miss opportunities because navigating complexity is different.
