I'm just about finished with creating my new Fantasy RPG system. Of course, any good Fantasy roleplaying game system needs a big monster collection. I have finished that one, also. With LOTS of monsters. And that monster collection needs LOTS of illustrations, too: One illustration for each monster.
That's where you come in. Draw 23 monsters after my instructions (much shorter than my usual instructions, because those instructions are for generic monsters, not for specific persons), which you will get when you start work. ONE monster per illustration, with minimal background.
This is an ongoing job: After you finished the current set of 23 illustrations, I'll immediately rehire you for the next 23-illustrations set, with new monsters. After that set is finished, I'll rehire you again, and so on.
I'm looking for an artist who can draw excellent fantastical creatures. Whether or not you like to play Fantasy RPGs makes absolutely no difference to me, as long as your art is crisp, detailed and good. Also, I am not looking for a logo designer or a photoshop artist: I need somebody who can draw, not somebody who can do tricks in Photoshop. Artists with cartoonish or Manga-like art styles don't need to apply, either.
Please keep in mind that the art must be ready for publishing: The finished illustrations must just look as if a pencil drawing was inked. After all, you can't use sketches or pencil drawings as book illustrations.
Art style must meet the following requirements: The monsters must not be caricatures. They must be properly and detailed drawn.
No artist can draw all monster types equally well; There's always a monster type (Dragons, for instance) that an artist does particularly well, and a monster type an artist does especially poorly (Fairies, for example).
Because of that, and because I want to finish the illustrations for 500 monsters as soon as possible, there will be several different artists on this project at the same time, each of you with different assignments.
In order to give you the right mix of monsters, I need to know which three (3) of those kinds of monsters you are particularly good with, and which two (2) monster kinds you are particularly bad with. Based upon your answer, I'll then assign you the monsters to draw with which you are most comfortable:
Dragons, Undead (Skeletons, Golems, Mummies), Characters (Elves, Fighters, Clerics, Halflings, Dwarves, etc), Animals (birds, fish, mammals), Dinosaurs, Mythic Beasts (Catoplepas, Satyr, Centaur, etc), Goblinoids (Orcs, Goblins, Ogres), Monstrosities (Beholder, aliens, Modrons, etc), Plant beings (Ents, sentient, flesch-eating plants or Tree/Human hybrids) or Fairies (Sprite, Tinkerbell, "Flower-Fairies"), Insects (beetles, spiders, bees).
At the beginning of the work, you'll receive a detailed PDF document from me. In this document, there are detailed instructions, descriptions of how the monsters look (sometimes with a reference illustration). If necessary, the artist must be ready to make revisions to the illustrations.
Please attach at least 1 older b&w illustration sample to your bid/message, so that I can judge whether your art style is right for this job. Don't just link to your online-portfolio: I won't visit it. If you don't attach the requested old art sample in your bid text, I'll simply have to decline you.
Work begins in Juny 2016, and should be finished within 3 weeks. Upon payment, all rights to the illustrations go to me. Budget is limited to 150$, but a positive (and detailed) feedback is assured. Although the feedback is NOT considered part of the payment but is something I give customarily for a very well-done job. And it has proven on other places to be a BIG help in getting new work for artists.
Okay, looking forward to your bids. Don't forget to answer all questions, to attach at least one old b&w line art sample of your past work (unanswered questions and/or missing old art samples will cause me to take you from the list of applicants) and Good Luck!
