We are looking for a research assistant/rough draft writer to join our true crime podcast. The thing that people love about the show is the level of research. It is very important.
This won't be a job where you can read wikipedia, click on the first few internet pages that come up, and then think you are done.
This will be involved. Hard work. A grind. The team on the podcast is extremely dedicated. We all put in ridiculous hours to create the show The hard work is starting to pay off, we are hitting the top of the charts and starting to get some pretty cool write ups. This will be an amazing opportunity for the right person. Is it you?
What will be expected;
The first test - read and understand everything below.
If there is a book on the case we are covering, it needs to be read. If there are two. read them both, and so on.
If there is a documentary/true crime show/dateline episode etc about the case, it needs to be watched.
Every newspaper article you can find, needs to be read.
News reports on youtube or otherwise, need to be watched.
If there are court rulings or other court documents available, yes you guessed it. Read them.
Internet forums/message boards/random blogs/web pages/comments and whatever else you can find need to be looked at as well.
Basically anything and everything that is out there on a case needs to be read and watched, put together in a timeline/episode outline.
The style of the show is audio documentary factual storytelling. No creative long flowing opinion pieces. Just facts. Just the story. The story is the star of the show, and it's true crime, so you don't have to make anything up.
As the show grew we used upwork to hire people and build the team. During that process we found that references and portfolios and so on can sometimes be misleading. I am more interested in what you can do for this specific job. How good is your research? How good can you put it all together? How quickly can you do it? What's your work ethic like?
We aren't interested in what you have or haven't done in the past. We want to see what you can do.
So the offer is simple. We have a case we want to cover. If we think your application has potential. We will give you the name of the case. The research process has already begun on this one too, so a few thousand words have already been put together by the team so far. We will see what you can do to finish it off. If we think you're the one. Then you might just find yourself working with one of the biggest and best true crime podcasts out there.
We believe this is the best method to get the best person. Give the job to a few people and lets see who can do what.
