We're needing to hire a freelancer, for a cultural project, with good 3D modelling habilities. This job consists in simplifying a 3D polygon mesh, generated by a 3D scanner (Creaform GO!SCAN 20), so then we can upload it to an interactive model on a website.
We'll have from 30 to 40 3D scanned objects (fossils), and after that we have to publish that models via Sketchfab.com system.
This job consists in take the original file, from the scanner, and simplify the mesh, so the final file can weights the minimum possible.
The final purpose of this project is to make a collection of Megatherium Medinae's fossils available for general public and scientific investigators around the world.
Please consider this project is applying for public funds, and will (if) start at january 2017.
We don't have any piece scanned yet, so, the only reference i can provide for now is these links of models digitalized with the same 3D scanner. Second link is a local press article about the specimen's fossils.
Sketchfab.com site has this recommendations about poly-count:
"Some rules of thumb for model performance:
- As few materials as possible
- 50 geometries/meshes or less
- 10 textures or less, especially when they are 4k+
- 500,000 polygons or less"
