We are looking for a new CAD software solution to use to create 2D plans for our exhibition rigging drawings. We currently have ArchiCAD which does a fantasitic job however only our CAD operators are able to use it. ... Here is what I would like: OS: Mac & PC Cost: up to $200 USD Here are the requirements of what we are looking for: • Ability to open dxf files of the venue and turn layers on/off • import PDF floorplans on top of the venue plan and scale to correct size to match venue • create elements or groups or blocks of items (eg lights, truss etc) and place them on the plan in 2D • provide dimensions and notations on the plan • put the plan onto paper with our title block for the event • export PDF file I have already tried the following CAD programs and found them to be not suitable: Sketchup: • gets too confusing for our sales guys doing a 2D drawing in a 3D space • no ability to 'arrange' objects in 2D to have some objects above or below others • PDF import is clunky - have to save as DXF file in illustrator then import and then fix the model • too slow when importing large complex floorplans TurboCAD Designer Mac: • No PDF import (brings in image only) QCAD: • No PDF Import • does not handle large floorplan files BricsCAD • PC Only (No Mac Version) • cannot import pdf file??? ArchiCAD: • Great Software - imports PDF, creates perfect plans • too expensive (approx $8k per licence) • too complicated for sales / event staff to operate I would like the succsesful applicant to research other CAD & drawings softoware, download trial versions to test functionality against requirements and provide a Pro's & Cons review with costings and make suggestion of the most suitable programs.
