I'm a Harvard-educated Ruby on Rails programmer seeking help with web development for my just-launched web app, CrowdBurst, on an as-needed, hourly basis (probably 3-5 hours a week to start with). Check it out at www.crowdburst.com. You'll need expertise in the Ruby on Rails ecosystem as well as Javascript/JQuery/Coffeescript, Rspec/Capybara, and git. This post is for programmers specifically; I have a separate post for the web design (HTML / CSS) aspect of the project. If you can do both, that's even better. If you're interested, please send a brief resume and/or links to your previous work, and answer my quiz question below. Compensation will depend on your experience and skills. I look forward to working with you! QUIZ QUESTION You have an array of strings. Write a Ruby function for converting the array into a Hash of (key, value) pairs where each key is a string and each value is the 1-indexed index of the string in the original array. That is, given ['foo', 'bar', 'baz'], you should return { 'foo' => 1, 'bar' => 2, 'baz' => 3 }.

This is a platform that allows customers to search and manage their IT objects. Built on Node.js and ElasticSearch, it enables a state of the art search engine to find objects quickly and easy. The idea is to search for a object as a specific user role and then select a action to perform on the object, eg. change it. Example: a end user wants to order a new software for their computer. This will then trigger a automatic process that integrates with other systems and deploys the software to the users computer. The product/platform is in BETA right now and we have our first customer running it. I am looking for someone long-term that can be an asset to the project. I estimate work to be 15-25 hours a week as a start. All tasks and issues are in GitHub and we work. This is a TDD project... Looking forward hearing from you.

I created a very simple Rails app that used the searchkick gem and elastic search. It works fine locally, but when I deploy to heroku, it fails to connect to the server. The error I get says: Faraday::ConnectionFailed in ResourcesController#search. ... I think this is related to searchkick and elasticsearch. I tried using Heroku's Elastic Bonsai but I just can't seem to figure it out -_-. ... I don't think it's a tough fix for the seasoned developer. Here is the link to my heroku app which is enabled to show the error. https://coding-resources.herokuapp.com/ Feel free to call or text me at I have this uploaded to github, but I feel like the easiest thing would be to use TeamViewer to get remote access to my computer to play around with.
