We have an excel file with a list of 285000 rows. Each row has a google maps url like the following (short example is attached):
These URLs all point to exact google maps locations.
We need to extract the latitude and longitude from google maps geocode api, so for example the first previous example will be:
As you can see, the query string is already in the original URL.
From that url resulting XML you can extract the latitude and longitude from GeocodeResponse > result > geometry > location.
The latitude and longitude should then be added to the excel file as two additional columns. Some rows will contain blanks, those rows can be ignored but the order MUST be kept, including the blank gaps. So for example:
column1: stays exactly the same
column2: insert latitude value (for example: 28.3106065)
column3: insert longitude value (for example: -16.4125784)
The challenge on this task it the large amount of URLs. Since the amount is well over the free-use quota of google’s geocode api, we will supply any api codes that are required so you will only need to quote for the work done and will not have to worry about google api cost.
Please submit cover letter including the following:
1. How much time you need to program the routine.
2. How much we will have to pay google for the geocode API usage.
3. How long (approximately) you will need to have the routine running to work through the entire file.
