Stanford GSB in Palo Alto, California, is one of the world’s top business schools, and is a global leader in business and behavioral research. We have a dedicated technical team, called Research Support Services (RSS), which provides faculty members with special analysis and custom application development necessary to complete their research projects successfully. This team member should be able to take on and independently handle a variety of challenging technical assignments and produce clean, professional, modular code that other team members can use in their projects. We estimate this job will be about 65% programming, and 20% technical research, and 15% other tasks such as data management, server administration, or writing build scripts. The estimated work load will be around 10-12 hours per week to start (this may grow over time). The person who fills this role should have a somewhat flexible schedule, and probably should be in a European or Asian time zone, because we will often have 2-4 hours of urgent work that will be assigned at the end of the business day in California (GMT -0700), that will be required at the beginning of the next business day. Other times, we will have longer-term projects that can be completed over a few days or weeks with a more flexible schedule. Because of the critical research deadlines involved, and the high skill and quality levels demanded by faculty conducting world-class research, this job will require a serious, dedicated and responsive candidate, with excellent organizational skills and excellent communication skills in written English, and preferably in spoken English as well (we may occasionally have Skype meetings by voice, for example). The initial pay rate we offer will vary depending on the skill of the applicant, and may grow over time with excellent performance. If it works out, we expect this will be a long term opportunity for the right person.
