My son (eight years old) and I have written a "silly" children's book with about 50 one line riddles all about pasta. Each right hand page will ask a riddle, the solution to which will appear on the left hand side of the following page. The artwork on this "answer" page will illustrate the riddle. For example: What does pasta do when it's hungry? Ziti. The illustration would be of a piece of Ziti eating a plate full of pasta. There are 50 of them. They're stupid, but funny.
The winning submission will be invited to draw the illustrations. Payment is either (a) per illustration, or (b) a share in royalties if any.
The winning submission will show examples of previous work. While I can't say what we're looking for exactly, I can say "We will know it when we see it." We are not looking for 'clip art' looking work--more work with an artists 'hand' on it. It should not look like it was created on a computer.
We have no previous experience publishing a children's book, but I do have an MFA in creative writing, and have some contacts from my alma mater. Obviously, no promises.
Please ask any questions that this short project description may have overlooked. I'm excited to see your proposals.
