Were migrating and consolidating our network and server infrastructure in our Co-Lo in Chicago, IL area (you MUST be in the area to qualify). We're looking for an engineer able to go onsite and provide both remote hands & facilities work but also linux and network administration.

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will be the technical liaison between the DevOps teams and the Lab Data Center Environment. In this role, you will be executing small projects independently while contributing to other large projects with the team. We will be looking to you to drive innovation, improve current processes and introduce automation with aim towards simplification. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting and solving all but the most complex infrastructure issues on a wide range of Data Center systems as well as understanding which issues to escalate to the appropriate resolver groups. As an expert of the equipment you support you will also be tasked with creating and maintaining documentation on these technologies.
The DataCenter is located in the Chicago, IL area
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent
· 3-5 years relevant experience in an IT Support / Operations role
· Minimum 2 years in IT / Datacenter environment
Must also have demonstrated technical expertise in:
o Linux Systems administration (required)
o Cloud environment administration (Openstack, VMWare, Docker) (required)
o Networking (DNS, TCP/IP) (required)
o Programming / scripting (Java, Perl, Ruby, C#, and/or PHP)
Must also have demonstrated experience in:
o Digging into the details of a system or process to solve customer problems
o Excellent oral and written communication skills
o Strong influencing skills
o Ability to work independently, with little direct management
o Open to provide after-hours support as needed
o Experience supporting large, Enterprise customers in an Operations environment
Ideal candidates will also have experience with the following:
Knowledge of data center ecosystem (cooling, electrical, networking, and structured cabling)
Previous experience working in a Data Center environment (racking & stacking gear, cable management, hot & cold aisle containment).
the position has a physical component requiring the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and may require working in cramped spaces or elevated locations.
IT Hardware Concepts:
x86 Architecture(Ideally HP, Dell, Cisco, Supermicro systems)
GRUB/LILO/COBBLER - Base Operating System Install
Network device and protocol configuration
Some experience with Perl, Python, Bash
Core OS Services: ssh, telnet, ftp, nfs, dns, dhcp, samba, ldap, cvs
Project management, organization and problem solving skills with a drive for results.
Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.
