I’m looking for an illustration for the cover of a children’s book that takes place in the world of Minecraft and is meant for ages 8-12.
The title of the book is: Choose Your Own Story: Sneezy Steve and the Best Quest Ever. It’s a part of a series of ‘Choose Your Own Story’ books where the reader gets to decide how the story goes and what happens next.
This story is a fun-loving and heart-warming romp through the world of Minecraft where our main character, (yes, you guessed it, Sneezy Steve) will explore, make friends, and solve problems for the people he meets in this new place. It’s a little bit silly, a little bit absurd, sometimes actual cats and dogs fall from the sky, it’s all up to the kids just how crazy the story gets.
I want the cover to represent clearly that it takes place in the world of Minecraft but instead of using art that comes directly out of the game, I want this book to look a little different and have a cartooned style front cover of the action and characters of the game. This will, I hope, give it more heart and represent the delightful, whimsical story inside.
The center of the cover needs to prominently feature, our main character Steve, who’s a character from the game. He is pictured in the first linked image.
Around him are CLEAR indications that we’re in the world of Minecraft. The blocky scenery, trees, mountains and water in the distance maybe. Around him are a couple other characters, like maybe a wolf, a zombie, a creeper, a skeleton, a pig or a sheep. Obviously, not all of these features will fit, but this is to give the designer choice.
In terms of composition, the second attached image is a good example.
I’d need at least the top third of the image to be relatively clear so that the title can be placed upon it and a strip at the bottom of the cover would need to be plain enough to have the Author’s Name superimposed over it.
If you are interested in designing the text layout of the cover and have experience with graphic design I’d love that. Let me know and you can include that in your quote for the cost. If you aren’t comfortable or skilled at that, then delivering just the illustration works great and I’ll have the text designed separately.
In terms of style, I’m looking for something between the second image and the third and fourth.
I love the very hand-drawn, organic illustrations of a computer-generated world. That contrast is exactly what I’m looking to capture with this cover. Of course, I also want your personal spin on things too. These examples just give you a broad idea of what I’m looking for.
If you are interested in working on this project please let me know, and further let me know the price for the work.
As a self-published author, still building my business, I unfortunately don’t have a huge budget for cover illustration. Ideally the max budget I have for this project is $100 USD. If you’re unable to do the work for something in this range, I absolutely understand and thank you for your time.
I would happily credit your name as the artist of the illustration, if you would like, or not, if you aren’t interested.
Ideally the work would also be done before the end of the next three weeks, but I’m flexible if that’s really impossible.
If this cover goes well, there will be many other books in the series that will also need cover illustration and I’d be thrilled to work with you again.
Please forward your thoughts on the project, your quote on the work, examples of your artwork and estimated time of completion back to me as soon as you have a chance. I’m thrilled to get a chance to work with you!
