Looking for a developer with Expression Engine and Cartthrob experience, as well as design experience, to create a unique upsell opportunity for our payment/checkout system on www.ecologyproject.org.
Our site users mostly use our online cart to pay tuition for our conservation education courses or checkout with store items. Currently, when a user checks out, there is a simple pop-up that asks them if they would like to add $15 to their "cart" as a donation to support underserved students on our courses.
We would like to turn this into an interactive feature, where they can use a slider bar that starts at $15, but they can move it down to $0 or up to $500 as an added donation.
We'd also like to have animation next to the slider bar that encourages a donation. The animation at $15 would show the Earth in relief with some trees and a couple animals on it. As the user slides the bar down to $0, the animals and plants would disappear until only the Earth remained. As they slide the bar up to $500, more plants and animals appear to populate it. The idea is to encourage donations by showing a positive impact on Earth.
Functionality for slider bar would need to include: coding the bare pop-up functionality; coding the individual pieces of animation to coordinate with each increment ($0, $15, $30, $50, $100, $150, $250, $500); integration with existing donation process; testing prior to our review; testing and bug fixes after our review; and deployment to live site upon final approval.
Ecology Project International will provide all images necessary for animation.
Estimated hours for development: 20-25.
This idea is based off of a similar upsell that Kiva.org uses. Attached are screenshots of the process. But you can see it in action by going to their site, clicking to "lend" to a project, then clicking on the "Edit" link under the "Help Kiva reach more borrowers around the world" fee. This fee is automatic, and you have to click on "edit," then move the slider bar down to $0 to opt out. This is very similar to what we'd like on our site.
