Our goal is to convert public data on officer-involved shootings from police department records into variables for analysis. This job would involve reading 46 police reports from Louisville and Knoxville and entering data about circumstances around each officer-involved shooting.
We are interested in hiring three people to enter data in the following categories:
1) Encounter characteristics and basic demographics for the involved suspect and police officer(s). Relevant variables include location, time, premise, response reason, and name/age/race/sex for the suspect and officer(s).
2) Police officer behaviour, including officer use of force, during the interaction. Relevant variables include injuries to the officer, number of shots the officer fired, whether the officer was on-duty, whether the officer was under-cover, and whether the officer issued a verbal warning.
3) Suspect behaviour during the interaction. Relevant variables include injuries to the suspect, suspect weapon, whether the suspect attacked, whether the suspect drew his or her weapon, and whether the suspect was mentally ill.
