One of our critical DB2 database became corrupted (data inconsistency) due to some software write error, and now cannot be activated (about 20G in size) after the DB2 cluster machine rebooted. The DB file itself can be copied and downloaded for inspection. However, the problem is DB cannot be activated by the DB system (DB II 9.1), and when we tried using an extraction tool (db2dart) to extract data from it, the process stops at September, so 3 months of backup data is lost. We need to recover the missing data. Due to data corruption, the missing portion of the DB cannot be read by standard system tools, neither can the DB log files. Many attempts at recovering the database via rollback techniques by several DB2 administration experts. None were successful. So we consider that an invalid approach. Almost every one of the experts ended up recommending a programming approach. Things that have been attempted so far: 1. A test readlog program has been written using 9.7 API. It works with 9.7 DB logs but does not work with 9.1 DB 2. Attempts have been made to compile the read log program using 9.1 API. However, a critical file utilrecov.c that 9.7 uses to log reading is missing from the 9.1 API (hence the corresponding read log functions). Tasks: Write a custom program to read transaction logs of a corrupted DB2 9.1 database to recover the missing data (starting from 2015/9), via API or non-API methods.
