NOTE: I speak English and Spanish and encourage freelancers of both languages to apply.
The project is to compose a series of backing tracks in MIDI, export the final mp3s to all 12 keys and deliver both the mp3s and the MIDI files as deliverables of the project. These backing tracks will be used by music students who are learning to improvise their own solos. The students will play the tracks and practice improvising over them.
I have already created hundreds of these tracks and I know exactly what I want. I can be flexible about the musical styles because ultimately I need tracks in all styles. So if you are more comfortable composing and recording simple accompaniment tracks in a rock style, then we will do that. If you are more comfortable creating musical accompaniments in a jazz piano style, then we can do that. (NOTE: Please download the attached zip file which contains 5 sample tracks that I created in the past. This will give you an idea of the range of possibilities you have to work with.)
I will tell you what scales and chords are to be used in each backing track, because the tracks go hand in hand with a teaching method that introduces students to new harmonic situations one at a time.
Since the tracks are intended to be used only as a background accompaniment, they can be quite repetitive. Depending on the style, it may even be appropriate to just do simple loops. We can discuss all of this.
Wherever you use piano or bass in your backing tracks, I would like for the piano to be entirely in the left channel and the bass to be entirely in the right channel. This allows students of bass and piano to omit these instruments by simply adjusting their stereo balance.
Again, I've made hundreds of these so I can help you with any doubts you may have about the process. I'm happy to show you exactly what I want. The expertise that I want from you is simply to manage the audio editing program, record any acoustic parts that you feel you need, make a nice tasteful arrangement, etc. It should be a fun project if you like simple composing with MIDI.
The first project I want to tackle is a set of modal tracks. (If you don't know what this means, it's very simple and I can explain it to you.) Essentially you will compose 7 separate 4-minute tracks. Each track will need to be exported to all 12 keys. You need to do some quality control by listening to the final exports in all keys, because sometimes certain MIDI instruments sound very realistic in one musical range but they sound awful when transposed to another range.
In total, we're talking about the following work:
1) Compose 7 separate backing tracks of approximately 4 minutes each. For each track, I will give you the notes, scales and chords to be used.
2) Record any audio parts that you need in order to complete your arrangement. (Alternatively, you can create the whole thing in MIDI as long as we agree that it sounds good.)
3) Export each of these tracks to mp3 files in all 12 keys. Ensure that each mp3 is recorded at the industry standard output volume and that all tracks sound good. Pan any piano and bass parts entirely to separate stereo channels. (See explanation above.)
4) Deliver the MIDI files, any raw audio files created, and the 84 final mp3s.
NOTE: On my project listing I have selected to pay by the hour but this is actually flexible. If you prefer to charge a fixed price for the entire project, I'm open to that too.
