This is a straightforward app development assignment that could be built by a small flexible team: single designer and 2 devs (front and back), or one super-skilled combo app developer/designer.
We are open to having our app developer leverage templates such as:
Cross platform development frameworks
Backend as a service (BaaS)
https://firebase.google.com (this one does quite a bit more than just serving as a backend)
Description: With the Kidevolve app, users (kids, parents, teachers) will be able to access first-in-their-class, high quality, kid-focused meditations (a.k.a. “creative mind stories”) that will facilitate age-appropriate training in mindfulness (and bring increased focus, empathy, happiness and balance into their lives). The app will feel like a fun game, as it will include an emotional inventory check-in feature plus badges that are awarded to kids for each listening experience.
The Kidevolve app will deliver on-demand mindfulness training to kids ages 5-10 in their own environments (home, school, after school, etc.) via ‘creative mind stories’ (our unique audio tracks), that are grouped into these categories: Mind Ninja, Supercharge, Energy Explorer, Happiness Hero, Love Machine, Sleep Zone, Weird & Wonky and Imagination Doctor.
Vision: Kidevolve is all about exploration and empowerment. We want this new app to be a unique tool for seeding, supporting and nurturing kids to discover their own path to self-regulation. This tool will complement (and be a natural extension of) Kidevolve’s physical programming (i.e.: our 6 week, after-school courses in mindfulness training for young children).
MVP: Initially we want to focus on igniting a passion in kids (and their parents and teachers) to learn and practice mindfulness through exposure to kid-appropriate mindfulness tools and training. Ultimately, we want kids to be empowered to use these tools on their own (even without the Kidevolve app), as they now have a repertoire of mindfulness techniques at their fingertips.
Overview of Features with Examples: The Kidevolve app will feature:
LOOK & FEEL > a highly engaging, kid-friendly, simple, sleek interface in keeping with the established Kidevolve brand (look & feel, colour template, tone)
Example: The Smiling Mind app has a simple design that we would like to match and surpass.
CONTENT > top notch meditation training for kids with a range of creative, engaging, kid-focused guided meditations (audios with still and/or moving stock footage), using a range of voices (male and female)
Example: Calm.com offers simple and calming stock video footage, and we would like to include some element of this. The Sleep Meditations for Kids app offers the type of meditations we will match and surpass.
CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) > by offering an “emotional inventory check-in” feature. This allows kids to rate themselves on a simple emotional scale before and after listening.
Example: The Stop, Breathe & Think app and The Smiling Mind app both offer sliding scale emotional check-in features that are easy to use.
GAMIFICATION > with fun badge collection. Kids can collect badges for each listening experience. This creates a strong visual and psychological push for kids to use the app.
Example: The Smiling Mind app offers badges for engagement.
This web app will need these features:
Homepage – getting started (‘what is mindfulness?’ for kids plus description of badge system and emotional inventory)
Inventory Check-in (using sliding scales of emotion) that appears before and after each meditation.
Page with selection of creative mind stories, grouped by high-level category: Mind Ninja, Supercharge, Energy Explorer, Happiness Hero, Love Machine, Sleep Zone, Weird & Wonky and Imagination Doctor.
Subpages with access to individual meditations – to be delivered via audio + stock rolling video of soothing scene (meadow, clouds, snow, river, rain falling) + stock Zen soundtrack + soothing voice.
Badge functionality pages (where kids can see badges being tabulated as rewards for listening times)
