Hi there, == summary == I have a 4.26 rails application with psql + elasticsearch backend that I would like to put in production with load balancing etc , with an ease for scalability. I started to dockerize it via but I dont have time to push more so I would a more experimented admin to take care and finish the work to get a production ready. Lots of tutorials do not go to production related issues. but you have the experience to go beyond. Perfect ! == details == it's a bit more complex, here is the current issues / situation: - what is dockerized: rails + postgresql + elasticsearch + ssl (let encrypt) but not nginx. - there is no load balancing for the server - the staging and production server while pointing on 2 separated dns are actually the same server , not good - we use jenkins tasks to build an docker image and deploy it on the staging server every time we see a git commit on master , and to promote the staging image to the production image manually - we use puppet standalone to setup the servers - we use free promotheus+ grafana to visualize the stats of the server + some basic alerts. === Your mission === (==> here if you want to apply to this job i ask you to give for each point/task a raw estimate about the time you need to complete the task + give comment if you think it's relevant. ) * Finishing the dockerisation for prod (ngnix, clustering psql + elasticsearch) * Setup the 2 production ssd dedicated servers to get - zero downtime to deploy new version on production - load balancing for the 2 rails app with the clustering of the backend (psql + elasticsearch) (swarm?) - make its scalability easy if I see we have a pb of performance. * searching the best tuned docker images on psql and elasticsearch and modifying them if required * Setup a dstaging server separated from the prod servers * Modifying the jenkins tasks (or switch to another tool) for continous integration (git master to staging automatically, to production manually) => some web services might simplify this task (consul etc..). You re welcome to propose me to use them but you have to budget that ($/year) > I need full-time, structured / pro-active individual who is autonomous and can propose a clear plan of tasks with due date and who does not over-complexify things. Thanks for your application ! Practical questions for the interview: 1. Are you structured? For each macro-task of "Your mission" section , Give a raw estimated time to complete each of them? 2. Do you have experience in docker? Choose one of the macro-tasks in the job mission and suggest a 1h max subtask to demonstrate your experience compared to a novice on docker that will fit with the task objective.

Hi There, we are a small french innovative startup with a infrastructure that observe millions of real estates ads from several countries, process them with data analytics and package the results into a set of end-user services for real estate agents. My current admin is a US smart freelancer who seek simplicity over complexity and was able to quickly solve issues and with a good verbal communication skill. however he doesn't have enough time. so I looking for the same profil. As admin , your task is critical, Required skills / technology we use: - Puppet - Jenkins - Docker - Prometheus (metrics / monitoring/alert), - load balancing/ backup strategy, - ElasticSearch , - PSQL, - Grafana, - Rails Application, - infrastructure security (we are not paranoid) Profil Criteria: - Get thing done & tested ( I try to not use micro-management, you're free) - strong debugging skill / able to quickly investigate an issue - autonomous but friendly/social strong verbal communication skill ** (a daily video skype will be done) - availability / reliability (if there is an issue on the weekend) - committed The kind of tasks you will be doing: - finishing to setup a load balancing system with rails, psql, elasticsearch + docker - consolidating the monitoring and alert system of the infrastructure - making sure that the cluster fo elasticsearch is properly setup (if a node failed, the otehr node take the lead) - consolidating the jenking tasks - simplify the general architecture if required. work management: - we use trello for managing the task and issue + skype to communicate - I am a friendly , I can help but you have ot understand that I am very busy (i am the co-founder) so I like calling instead of chatting, I try to take time at the beginning to answer to any question but I am looking for an autonomous person who quickly gets it ;) the 3 first tasks: - I wil ask you an estimated time to complete the task and we will agree on fix hoursto avoid bad surprise (you tell me 1h and finish in 8h because of 'unexpected stuff'). this will also enable me to estimate: 1. how fast you really complete the task 2. the reliability with your original estimate. the best is when you tell me 1h and finish in 1h. the worse is when you tell me 1h and finish in 8h. --- QUESTIONS --- 1. Rate yourself ! = Mark from 0 (beginner) to 10 (top notch), 5 = 1 year of experience for each technology and each profil criteria and associate a comment about why this mark. Thanks ! ;) NOTE: be carefull to " I am the best and put 10/10 marks.=> I will have high expectation = high deception if you do not have such levl = I will expect that you get things done fast. => if you mark 10 and work 4h to do a job that a senior takes 15 mins . you're burnt ! . dont play to such game. 2. What skill/new technologies/new practices have you learned recently that you think were worthwhile? Thanks for your application ! Nicolas linkedin.com/in/nmaisonneuve
