I want to download data from google patents: https://www.google.com/googlebooks/uspto-patents-pair.html The data can be downloaded using google's gutil command line utility e.g. gsutil cp gs://uspto-pair/applications/11871108.zip You can see a list of all of the available downloads using the same utility: gsutil ls gs://uspto-pair/applications There should be about 5.2 million zip files. I want to download each zip file, unzip it, and then only keep the files that have "application_data.tsv" "ADS.pdf" or "OATH.pdf" in the file name. For example: 11871108/11871108-application_data.tsv 11871108/11871108-image_file_wrapper/11871108-2007-10-11-00003-OATH.pdf 11871108-image_file_wrapper/11871108-2007-10-11-00008-ADS.pdf After these three files have been extracted, the original zip file and the other uncompressed files should be deleted to economize on hard disk space. There is no need to keep the original directory structure. All three of these files could be in the same level of the final output directory. In order to prevent file system issues with having up to 15 million files in a single directory though, the files will have to be arbitrary spread out across sudirectories. To be safe, maybe create 1000 subdirectories and spread the files over those. All files from a given zip file (e.g. the three files listed above) should be in the same directory as one another though. In order to get this done in a reasonable amount of time I want to do in in parallel. I'd like to have 12 threads working at once, with the ability to easily change that number later if I want (not while the code is running of course). I want a shell script (or potentially a script written in another language) that does this task. My shell is tcsh. My OS is Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation release 6.7 (Santiago). I do not have root access to the server. If I need to install anything non-standard to make this work on my system, I may require your help to walk me through it. Note this project does not violate any terms of service.
