We are an ecommerce shipping operation here in Orange County CA. We are looking for a local programming partner to help us with doing some back end programming to improve the speed of certain processes, in this case, network integration for Zebra ZP500 network label printer.
We currently print several hundred labels a day using the "windows print" command, which takes a little longer per cycle than if the software sends the ZPL code directly to the printer.
The ZP500 printer is using a simple programming language called ZPL-II which essentially is a small ASCII based, unencrypted text file that gets sent to the printer. The printer then prints the label.
Our goal is for a contractor to help us modify the php code, to switch it from Windows print protocol to PHP, so that we can save 3-5 seconds per print job.
The first job involves coming on site to analyze our code (written in PHP/MYSQL) and then to create a duplicate "label printing" module that sends the printing packets to the printer directly over the network. This is over the TCPIP network. My system is running Windows 2008 R2.
1. Taking a look at the attached "web interface" you will see that we have a basic setup to allow us to "select" the printer and send a test print. However, this test print is using the "windows print" protocol. And we find that out of 300-500 labels that get sent, it would lose 2-3 of them.
2. This "web interface" sends command to printers which are loaded onto "devices and printers". A network zebra printer doesn't actually need to be "added" to this list to function, adding to portability and scability.
3. This is typical zebra printer. There are two interfaces, USB and ethernet. We are printing via USB interface which meakes it very slow.
We do have several follow up jobs lined up after this, all specifically to increase efficiency in the warehouse/packaging side. So ideally we are looking for a contractor who is located not far from our location and work with us long term, once we determine your qualification. Thank you.
